As Oshitari Yuushi walked the castle halls, he had yet to find the very person he'd been looking for. It was unfortunate, really. The young mage was his soul reason for coming over, after all.
This was, more than likely, why the older mage found himself having to ask where Shiraishi's room was. It hadn't been a hard task, considering how easily it was to charm the information from one of the castle workers who seemed to know him well enough. He must have been a very popular and nice kid, to get such a smile from the young (by his standard) maid. She appeared to be in awe of his future pupil.
It, in turn, also made Yuushi smile as he bid goodbye and started for Shiraishi's room. Soon, he found himself just outside the heavy wooden door. He knocked, yet there was no answer after several moments of silence.
Yuushi sighed.
Indeed, Shiraishi was going to be trouble for him if he was this hard to track down. Though, being that this was the boy's room, he would probably return sooner or later. So, without further adieu, the seasoned mage pushed the door and strode inside, closing it behind himself as quietly as he possibly could. He didn't want to get caught for sneaking into someone's room, after all. It may just label him as a spy, and that, he absolutely was not.
However, he was taken about by the room itself. It smelled of the boy who occupied it, and the few trinkets lining on stands spoke volumes of their owner. Quite a dangerous hobby, if Yuushi did say so himself. Who would keep such things?
He chuckled softly and went to the soft, down filled bed where he sat to wait.
Something about the day just didn’t feel right. Normally, Shiraishi wasn’t too worried about feeling like that… but now that they had had guests so long it was almost possible something was wrong. The test the council had set up hadn’t gone too well, so anything could have happened.
Well, all he could really do is avoid seeing Yuushi or Osamu. Maybe that way his day wouldn’t be too ruined. Then again, he had the worse luck when avoiding trouble.
Shiraishi had come up with a plan though. He’d get some things from his room to study in Atobe’s room. He very much doubted Yuushi or Osamu would search for him there.
Kenya would, but he hoped that his teacher would be fair this time around. At least that he would give him a warning… well, you could always hope.
Sighing, the white mage opened the door… and froze still.
“Yuushi… how, or actually, why are you in my room?” Shiraishi asked.
"If you have to ask, then I would say the surprise is spoiled." The smirk on Yuushi's lips was subtle, but his body language was anything but as he leaned back into his palms against the bed. Of course, he was also just teasing Shiraishi. While he wouldn't mind the chance to seduce and ride the beautiful boy, he would also feel a little dirty for spoiling someone so uniquely naive. Yet there was no guilt in purposefully trying to fluster anyone.
Winking, the elder mage extended a leg, and crossed one over the other. "Please, close the door and then we may begin."
Shiraishi felt a slight blush on his cheeks. Oh, he should have just skipped his room and gone to Atobe’s room. That way he wouldn’t have to deal with the situation he had brought himself into. Shiraishi kept his hand on the door and tried to appear as normal as possible. “And what if I just leave you here because I feel like skipping talking to you?”
Well, at least he was being honest, even if he wasn’t too polite.
The dark haired mage simply chuckled as he observed his soon-to-be apprentice. "As much as it would amuse me to see the shock on your face the day we-" The very word 'we' could have meant anything, if he were willing to be vague. At the moment, he was a little willing, yes. "depart, I do believe what I have to say may be of some interest to you."
Uncrossing his legs, Yuushi stood and approached Shiraishi. He slid his hand onto Shiraishi's waist and gripped him gently as he came so very close to the young mage. This was so Shiraishi couldn't escape his hold as he leaned down to whisper something into the boy's ear. "So please, don't be a guest in your own room. This won't steal too much of your precious time, I promise."
Yuushi had been close to Shiraishi a couple of times. Well, once it couldn’t have been helped due to being kidnapped together, but the other time he had willingly hugged him as a greeting, like Yuushi had asked. Now he was feeling uncomfortable, which showed as shivers down his spine. Shiraishi was familiar with the feeling of being close to the older mage, but something about the whole situation was fishy. Every word the black mage said.
Still, Shiraishi didn’t want to get too many surprises, so he might as well listen to what the man had to say. So he closed the door. “Better?” he asked.
The young mage was far too willing to accommodate him, and this, perhaps, would be the most amusing novelty to come. That trust of his would no doubt allow Yuushi to slip into giving Shiraishi many interesting encounters. It made him smile, though he hoped he wouldn't look like a dirty old pervert in the process. "Very much so, thank you."
Sliding his other hand onto Shiraishi's hip, he held the young mage at bay in a gentle grip. It was enough, he hoped, so he didn't run away.
"I hope you are as willing to listen to me in the future, Kuranosuke." Yuushi paused for a moment as he tried to collect the right wording. "We will be spending quite a lot of time together."
Shiraishi blinked. What had he done to deserve to spend more time with Yuushi? “… why? Are you going to stay here even longer?”
"If only it were that simple." Yuushi had to fight the urge to chuckle at Shiraishi's confusion. He was far too adorable as well as beautiful.
"No, you will be departing with the young Prince's convoy along with myself." Essentially, Shiraishi was trading one Oshitari for another - one that was, fortunately (in Yuushi's opinion) better equipped to handle harder pupils. Ones much more reluctant to learn the things they needed. " For a short time, I will be your mentor, and not my dear cousin."
Shiraishi just stared blankly for a while. He would be taught by Yuushi? No way. It couldn’t have been true. Why would anyone arrange something like that? No, it was clearly a bad way of trying to humor the situation.
“Haha, quit joking, Yuushi. That’s a bad one”, he said, hoping the older mage would laugh at the situation and tell the truth. “Now what’s the real deal?"
"It's no joke," Yuushi shook his head, a strand or two of long, dark blue hair moving into his eyes. He was glad that he'd come as close as he had to Shiraishi, though. In his older age his eyesight was slowly wavering and he'd wanted to see exactly how his student-to-be would react. No doubt he would be an improvement from Sakuno. "I would not make a joke of such things."
Shiraishi shook his head as well. He couldn’t believe a word the older mage was saying. “It has to be a joke… I mean, you’re a black mage. All you could teach me is the basics… and I already know them by the book”, he said logically. “If not a joke, then a big mistake.”
Finally, the older mage did chuckle. It was a soft, luxurious laugh that said he was clearly amused and impressed. Actually, he was very impressed. "You're a sharp one, aren't you?"
Pulling away, he gave some distance to the young mage as he crossed his arms in front of himself. This enabled him to quell the welling desire to hug the poor boy and kiss the top of his head. "Apparently the elders think it prudent that I show you the basics in a new light. I can teach you things that Kenya can't. It's not an unwise decision."
“Elders… Osamu?” Shiraishi thought out loud. So it must have been a decision that came from the test. Maybe he could plead for a retake so that they could reconsider things? Or was the decision final? “Is there a possibility of somehow to undo the decision? I mean, I can’t leave Raytin…”
Yuushi knew that Shiraishi wouldn't be happy to hear the news. He also knew that the young mage wouldn't want to leave his home. Yet it came as a surprise to him, that he felt a little saddened by just how much he suspected the boy disliked being near him. This didn't show on his face, however. Yuushi had become quite the actor in his youth, and it constantly carried over.
"I am afraid its an irreversible decision." His smile turned from amused to slightly apologetic. "Made upon the assessment of your progress, as I am sure you suspect. It is my job to teach you some discipline, and I assure you that my methods are..." Yuushi drawled, his words leaving off on purpose as he thought which would best suit what he wanted to convey. "most definitely suited to teaching someone of your quality."
Shiraishi felt like cold water had been dropped onto him. The council decisions were always irreversible. He knew that. He just had hoped that this one would have been different. “It doesn’t change the fact that I can’t leave. I’m on Raytin’s side. I can’t just come to Risath, since I’m this kingdom’s mage, now can I?”
"You are not anyone's mage until your training has been completed." Yuushi's eyebrow rose by a slight degree. Shiraishi could think highly of himself, couldn't he? His defiance was actually endearing. "And you forget that we are a neutral party. You may be looked upon as a spy once we get there because of your connections to this Kingdom's ruler, but it comes down to nothing more than you visiting to be trained."
If it made anyone uncomfortable, he was very willing to move Shiraishi's training into a cottage somewhere in the city, rather than the castle. But considering he wouldn't be privy to any knowledge about Risath, he didn't see too much of a problem.
Shiraishi closed his eyes. Of course. He had known that he wouldn’t be able to escape this. If he would refuse to leave with them, he could just say goodbye to being a mage. “I do know we’re neutral… and that the council’s orders are absolute”, he said and opened his eyes again to look at Yuushi. “When are you… we departing?”
When Shiraishi opened his eyes again, Yuushi could see the resignation in his chocolate eyes. The weight that put on his own chest was a little uncomfortable, but he smiled gently at the younger mage all the same.
"You have three days to pack all that you need and say goodbye." His arms relaxed to hang at his side as he tried not to console the young mage by hugging him. "I don't know how long you will be with me, though. It all depends upon your development."
“I see”, Shiraishi said and nodded. “I guess that means I shouldn’t slack off if I want to come back home soon.” Well, maybe that would give him enough motivation to carry on. And after he’d come back, he’d obey anything Kenya said. He was a fine teacher. It was Shiraishi who was usually a lousy student. He had made Kenya seem like a bad instructor.
Speaking of instructors… “What about Sakuno? Aren’t you teaching her?”
Yuushi shook his head no again as he turned to pass Shiraishi. They were getting into something Shiraishi had no real basis of needing to know. He also figured that his visit was due to end very soon, considering Shiraishi had a lot to do before they disembarked from port in three days.
"She is to be a white mage, and while I'm good at instructing even the lighter side, Sakuno is..." He drawled his words out purposefully again, though this time he had no idea what to say of her. She was a sweet girl, and she blushed just as prettily as anyone else, but she was more suited to a gentler hand. "Special. She will get a proper teacher in due time."
His grip landed on the door handle and with a firm yank, he pulled it open. "I best be going now. The young Prince may cause your King a terrible headache if he's left alone with Momo too long to roam the castle."
Shiraishi nodded. “And I better start making preparations for leaving. I’ll probably see you at dinner”, he said and turned to supposedly find things to bring with him. Actually he might as well skip dinner and eat with Keigo. Yes, that was a nice idea.
"You most certainly will." Bowing his head, the older mage slipped through the door and into the hallway. His dark eyes went left, then right before he decided which way he should most likely go. More as a means to check his direction and bearings than anything, though. He was not familiar with the castle's layout and would, if he let himself, get lost in all likelihood.
At least his trip with Shiraishi was not unproductive. The boy seemed to take it much better than he had imagined. That was a nice surprise that made him smile to himself, just a little. However he knew the hardships to come were not just Shiraishi's alone. It was incredibly hard to be in a room with someone so seductively innocent, and not want a nibble for himself.
