Unabashed Space Opera

Although I didn't expect much and was dubious when I picked up this audiobook, I found myself quite engaged with all the characters and enjoyed the pure space pulp.  And boy does this qualify as such- with SEVEN massive books in the series.  Grab the wheel, dude!

Thanks for this. I'll have to check out Saga of the Seven Suns soon.

Just finished the second book of The Song of Ice & Fire series by George R. R. Martin. So far the series is awesome.

Do you feel a bit of guilt when "reading" audiobooks? I do. I know it is stupid, but even though I read all day long for work, I feel stupid for not reading the old-fashioned way.

I just downloaded an audiobook for my iPod on Mozart. It is another biography, the third one on him. (the first two, I read on paper, which is how I bought this one without feeling guilty.)

They are a guilty pleasure for me. They remind me of having my grandpa tell me stories when I was a kid.

Wow, guilty? That's really sad!
I LOVE having stories read to me. Oral history and retelling of stories was our only way of remembering the past and passing on knowledge for a lot longer than we've had the written word. You could think of it as honoring the long oral tradition of humanity. Reading is really really new fashioned.

You could also think of it of expanding the time you're actually reading new stuff. I listen on my commute, when I walk the dogs, when I'm performing boring repetitive tasks at work. Those times would be wasted otherwise.

Free yourself from your guilt!
