The article proposes that it is projected self-hatred for being fat that causes people to be so nasty to other overweight people:

I'm in the same boat as you. Actually, I think I feel more empathy because I'm there and so I understand some overweight people might be feeling the same frustrations and struggles as I am. Hatred? Nah. That's weird.

yeah, I don't have hatred, but I sometimes catch myself being critical, for the simple fact that I was able to lose the weight and "How come you can't too?" But I realize the issue is far more complex than that, and I was fortunate enough to have the resources.

I find it far easier to find other people attractive, regardless of their size, than I do myself, and I always have. Including people much larger than me at any size.

But I do think that in this society women in particular are encouraged to police each other. There's this idea that we're always in some sort of competition, usually over men. I mean, watch shows like Charm School, or Bad Girls Club, they're marketing the competition between women as desirable in many ways.

Which is fucking stupid. Because what the hell are we competing for? Men? Aren't there an awful lot of those running around out there?
