Various degrees of light fall across your face.  As I move my fingers toward your cheek, the strands fall across my hand, leaving only darkness beneath.  You open your eyes, possibly due to the change that pressed so lightly upon your lids.  For a time, all we do is breathe.  My hand is lying along your temple, as still as I can ask of it.

How we've come to be here, together, I am still uncertain. It seems that oceans fall between us, the expanse growing larger every day.  As far as the eye can see, there is storm approaching, but the blue skies hold it back, for you are here beside me.  And all there continues to be is the whisper of our breath.

Suddenly we are outside.  The wind is silent. We can feel it as it brushes between us, and my reaction is immediate.  As slight as the wall is between us, I reach for you even more fiercely.  The light in your eyes, as you look down at me, gives me strength.  There is nothingness, still, for only the air we take in makes a sound.

The breeze in our faces, you lead me toward the water's edge.  The clouds abate as we draw near. They continue on, shrinking farther into the distance, as if shrinking from us.  How strange this all is!  The water that seemed to stretch as far as my eyes could see, is nothing but haze.  Merely heat rolling across the green of the earth.  I step forward, and the expanse fades away.  You are there.  You are not nearly as far away as I had thought before.

My eyes flutter open as the various degrees of light shift over my face.  There is no hand on the side of my cheek to comfort me. There are only the window hangings moving with the breeze, sending shadows across my lids.  As I lay there alone, the only sound is the whisper of my breath.

You are miles from me, and yet, the place where you would lay is warm.
