Tagging any/all Runaways and Wither

Nico had the Staff of One out, laying across her lap as she stared at the very neutral walls of the little… well, sitting area was the best way to describe it. This was where they’d all been stuck after the Avengers had determined that they weren’t in need of any immediate medical care. The sitting area had the only door out. There weren’t any ( Read more... )

Karolina occupied herself with exploring the suite of rooms off the windowless den. Rooms without windows made her nervous, claustrophobic...panicky, even. It seemed that the adults and the witch had decided that this was the safest place for them at the moment, but she was going to have some sky. Even if there were bars on the window, she needed one. How else did they expect her to recharge ( ... )

Kevin was draped on an armchair, back in his customary black garb. He flexed his fingers in his black gloves, studying the ridged rubber surface on the fingertips. Even better than his old pair at Xavier's, really. Everything at the Tower seemed to be better than Xavier's, even the scrap metal. He'd seen the open door to the hangar, with its gleaming surfaces and piles of detritus in the corner. He hoped that he could get someone to give him some welding tools before he went crazy from the temptation ( ... )

Nico turned the TV back on with a sigh. She'd promised herself that she'd stop letting Alex affect her life, and here she was turning off the TV just because there was a show on that they'd both liked. "Ex-boyfriend thing," was all she said by way of explaination. "Sorry."

She twisted a little in her seat, swinging her legs over the side so she was looking at Kevin. "Y'know, I thought this place would be more... super-hero-y. With guys flying around all over the place and stuff."

"Believe me, it's not all it's cracked up to be. At Xavier's, the school I went to, everyone was a mutant. Flying everywhere, on fire, and there was even this one girl made of mercury who was my friend." Kevin waved his hands in the air to accent his words. "It was chaos, but it was controlled chaos. You ended up getting used to it after a while."

Wither began drawing a modified version of the falling figure, making it more graceful, with a better defined arc to the body. "Everyone there was special because of their powers. Not because of anything they were actually good at. The students with the less flashy powers kind of got pushed to the side ( ... )

Xavin had gone several days with little sleep, and after a short, unrestful nap, she suspected she had either adjusted to less sleep or, more likely, she was simply unable to rest anywhere near the Avengers. Or the Emperor. Or knowing war was still waging between her home world and Majesdane.

Xavin ignored the resentment toward the Skrullos commander who diverted her here and chose instead to explore the building. It was always best to establish escape routes. But she did not wish to interrupt the bonding between Nico, Chase, and Kevin, and she needed to practice her invisibility. On second thought, they might not have appreciated the door randomly opening and closing.

It wasn't long before she ran into Karolina, and dropped her invisibility.

Karolina looked up from staring intently out the slit-windows and found a smile somewhere. She hadn't wanted to interrupt anyone else's brooding, but she honestly didn't like being left alone with her own.

"Hey," she said, uncurling from the gargoyle-hunch. "Restless?"

"Yes." Xavin replied. "And I am not the only one." The skrull sat beside her future bride. "I thought you would have wanted to be with your friends." Xavin had expected to be observing and taking mental notes on interactions between friends and it was discomforting to see Karolina isolating herself.

Karolina laughed softly. She knew that Xavin hadn't really had any friends growing up, but it was easy to forget that things she considered common sense were puzzling to her fiance.

"Everybody's wound pretty tight right now," she said by way of explanation. "If you don't give people time to work through their own feelings, they can snap at you and say things they'll regret later." The sky had gone peachy and pale, and any minute now the outer rim of the sun would clear the gaps of horizon visible through the buildings.

"The Avengers pretty much have us under house arrest, and until we get Molly back we won't be able to do anything." Fingers of soft gold light reached across the carpet, and Karolina stretched her foot out to meet them, wiggling her toes. "Besides, I'm pretty tired. I wanted to get a little sun before going back into battle, so to speak."

"I'm gonna say it does," Nico said, sliding off the arm of the chair to crouch in front of the TV. She opened up the little cabnet that made up the stand and grinned. "Oooh, lots of shiny new high tech toys. And movies." She dug around a bit. "Hey, Legend! I remember watching this way back when. Back when Tom Cruise was still cool."

"Back when Tom Cruise was still sane, you mean," Karolina chuckled as she followed Molly back into the central hub, Xavin in tow. "Which is kinda sad, because I really liked The Last Samurai." She grinned to see Nico enthusiastic; she'd been really broody when Karolina'd left for sun. The light had done her wonders, though. Her leg only twinged a little when she put weight on it.

"Molly's got her heart set on the Matrix movies. She tried to explain them just now, and I think she gave Xavin culture-shock." Karolina dropped into an armchair and squirmed around to find a comfortable spot. Truth be told, she didn't think any of them would stay awake through the first movie, let alone the entire trilogy. She wasn't sure just how long she'd been awake, what with the conversion from space-time to Earth-days, but she was certain it had been over 24 hours. That was all right, though. She was almost as certain that they'd be here for a good while.

"Well, I'm up for anything." Gert said walking over to the couch, "Some totally unrealistic fighting might be nice."

Before sitting down, Gert put a hand on Molly's shoulder and whispered, "I think your friend might need you to make him feel more welcome here." She really hoped that Chase or Old Lace hadn't scared Cyrus into not feeling like part of the gang. He helped Molly and that was all she cared about.

Gert sat on the couch, her good deed for the day done and looked around for Chase. "Hey! Chase! Get your butt in here, we're watching a movie!" She yelled before adjusting her glasses and waiting for the blank screen to come to life.

"Matrix... we can do Matrix." Nico dug into the cabnet, finally pulling out the first of the trillogy and sticking it into the DVD player. "And God said let there be Keanu, and there was. And it was good." She scrambled back to her perch on the arm of Kevin's chair, ignoring the fact that Xavin was in the room.

She couldn't do anything about the Skrull without upsetting Karolina at the moment, so she was going to concentrate on something else. Anything else.

Cyrus hunched in his seat, peering up at Nico through his hair. Everything about his positioning screamed submission, that he wasn't worth the time or the energy it would take to strike him.

"Broken glass." he repeated. "Brilliant but all wrong. The Tools...drinking the wine and seeing the poison spider at the bottom. 's what it feels like. Not a tool to be used, it uses. Watches, changes, adapts."

" 'One ring to rule them all...'" Cyrus sing-songed, shuddering.

On screen Neo was panicking as he spotted the agents thanks to a strange phone call, but Xavin had lost interest. Instead her eyes slid sidelong to look at Cyrus. She hoped the werewolf made sense to at least one of her companions as he made no sense to her.

Kevin racked his brain for something that would calm Cyrus down at all. "Hey, hey... He can't get us here, right? And we're not even saying his name, or whatever Ms. Xanathos told us not to do." He rifled through the doodles next to him until he found a clean page and sketched out a very rough portrait of Molly. Cyrus hadn't been overjoyed by the drawing of himself, but maybe one of his new charge would brighten him up a little?

Kevin doodled a quick form of Molly sleeping on wolf-Cyrus' back, then passed it over to the two. Molly was nearly asleep, but Kevin prodded at her with the paper, silently pleading with her to snap Cyrus out of it.

Molly looked up, yawning as she grabbed the paper to look at it. It was her! And Cyrus! That was freaking awesome! She'd never been drawn before. It was pretty cool.

"That's totally ME! And Cyrus too! Look Cyrus!" She held the paper up for him to see. "Hey, what's wrong? Stop sounding like one of those freaky prophecies in the movies."

She nudged at him. The drawing was totally more important than creepy spiders in glasses.
