Escaping

Billy Kaplan loved super-heroes.

This was a given. He'd been mad about them since he was very, very young. It didn't help that the friends he'd had never did anything to discorage him, and that his parents thought it was cute.

Getting to hang out with Mr. Immortal was something that he would be grinning about for years to come, ( Read more... )

Tommy scowled to himself. He was going crazy here. Granted it was entire tower, but he still wasn't allowed outside without adult supervision and between the crap that was happening between Viz, Cass and Krissy, Tommy really just didn't want to be trapped anymore.

Sure the tower was big, but he was a speedster. He'd covered the entire tower in 20 seconds when he'd first entered it. Besides, after Juvie he didn't do well with enclosed space with only so much room to run. And so, he pondered the front door. And whether or not he could make it through the front door and out into glorious freedom before Stark or Cap caught him and made his life worse. He was really beginning to envy the other kids that could come and go as they pleased.

Well, sitting around was just going to make things worse. So. Front door. Tommy's stomach growled. Okay, well maybe a pit-stop by the kitchen first.

Billy finally found Tommy in the kitchen. "Aha! Just the man I was looking for!" he said, marching in with a slightly manic grin on his face. He spread his arms wide and said, "What would you say if I told you that we're getting out of here? Cause I don't know about you, but I'm going stirr crazy and hiding Mr. Stark's Cheez-its is fun for only so long."

He cocked his head to one side and waited a moment before adding, "We can get coffee and sugary stuff. My treat."

Tommy cocked his head to the side giving Billy a 'the hell?' look. He then glanced around the room for any possible hidden cameras, hiding servants or other super heroes. Billy was actively seeking him out. And offering to by him sugar and caffeine. Perhaps he had gotten trapped in Mirror Land? Or the Billy before him was in fact a Doombot in disguise.

"Okaaayy..." He replied cautiously. "But...you're offering to buy me caffeine. How can I be sure that you're the real Billy?"

Billy thought about it for a moment, scratching his chin. "Well, one of the things I was gonna do when we escape was hit my comic shop to pick up my pulls. Proof enough, Zippy, or do you want me to track down Teddy and kiss him in front of you?"

Tommy gave Billy a cocky grin. "Sorry, forget the world doesn't slow down for everyone else." He then shoved his hands in his pockets and proceed to follow the other boy towards the comic book shop.

"So, what exactly are we getting in here? It's not like you haven't met the people in these things. Or are you checking to see if we've got our own comic yet? Not sure how'd I feel about that. I don't think they could capture the complete and utter awesomeness that is me in ink and paper."

"Mostly, I'm after the DC stuff," Billy said, managing to not quite skip as he walked. "And the Young Avengers book's been out for about two months before we busted you out, so you wouldn't be in it yet. I give it another month or two." He grinned back at Tommy. "I wonder how they're going to deal with your origin, since they don't really know jack all of what happened.."

Tommy scowled, growing quiet. "With any luck it'll be better than my actual origin." He shook his head to try and clear it of bad memories. "So. DC...eh? Wonder Woman's hot. And that's about all I know."

"I'll have to take your word on the hotness of Wonder Woman. I'm not a fan. I'm more of a Vertigo enthusiast, especially with all this Infinite Crisis nonsense." Billy said, stamping down on his curiosity about Tommy's past. He didn't relish the idea of getting blown up because he annoyed the speedster.

Besides, there was plenty of time to ask after comics.

"They'll probably gloss over your appearance on the team. God... they'll probably cover your appearance fighting the Zodiac first." He rolled his eyes heavenward.

The Arcade tommysheperd August 10 2006, 04:36:50 UTC
Tommy looked at the glowing neon in the windows of the building in front of them. Wow. An Arcade...he hadn't been in an arcade in...a really long time.

"Ah, the Temple of Gaming and Quarter Collection Agency." He grinned over at the brunette. "Shall we go waste far too much money on pointless violent video games?"

"You can waste money on pointlessly violent video games," Billy said with a grin as he manuvered past Tommy. "I am going to waste money proving that I am still the King of Dance Dance Revolution."

The machines were up against the wall, towards the back. Owing to the fact that it was still pretty early in the day, the place was mostly empty, so he had the game pretty much all to himself.

Tommy arched an eyebrow. "DDR? You? King? Oh, I think not. I owned at DDR back in Jersey. I prefer House of the Dead, but it seems someone needs to be taught a lesson."

He headed for the large neon machine which lured in prey with it's siren call of 'Let's DDR MAX!'. Digging around in the pockets of his jeans for quarters, Tommy looked at Billy and jerked his head towards the game. "I challenge you, O Mighty DDR King. Prepare to give up your crown."

"You're on, Zippy. Prepare to be schooled." Billy dug around in his pockets, finally producing a couple dollars which he fed through the change machine. "And usage of super-powers will get you zapped," he warned as he came back to feed the beast with quarters.

Billy had survived ten years of dance lessions, three of which had included ballet. No way in hell was Zippy the Rabbit Racer going to beat him at Dance Dance Revolution.

"Yeah, right." Tommy snorted as they walked along to...Yuppie central? Ugh. He really hoped they had something more substantial than bagels and coffee here. He was a growing boy with a speedster appetite. Meaning he could easily eat his body weight five times over in a day. Well, Billy was paying so no sense in bitching about it. Must be nice having money...or rather a family that would give it to you.

Billy watched the traffic moving in and out of the deli, quietly assessing. "Bleh," he finally announced, zeroing in on the hot dog vedor across the street. "You'd think they'd have a bit more... I dunno... variety around here. Where's a burger joint when you really need one?"

In all honesty, he would have liked to hop on the subway and trek out to the Devil's Due... but he was more than willing to be that it was closed, and would stay that way for a little while.

Tommy shrugged. "We could go head a little farther out. I'm sure there's something better than this around here somewhere." He weighted his options of hot dog vendor, Yuppie-ville, empty stomach, and waiting. Thus far waiting seemed the most preferable option.

"I don't really know New York though, so you'll have to be the leader." He then grinned. "Unless, of course, you want me to zip around and see what we've got."

Billy glanced around, then gave a single sharp nod. "Quickly," he said. It probably wasn't a very good idea. In fact, he was pretty sure it was a bad idea. But the fact was, Billy didn't go out for junk food that often (his parents had some very definate ideas on the subject), so he didn't know where many of the best places were.
