The Skrull and the Kree

The console inside Xavin’s ship beeped in a certain pattern, indicating an incoming message. That was all the warning received before an explosion shook the Avengers’ Tower. Something had set off the Skrulls - maybe something had happened out there in space, or maybe they were just tired of waiting for Dorrek VIII to “come to the correct conclusion ( Read more... )

Molly yelped as Victor drug her down. He could be such a dummy sometimes! She couldn't be hurt; he knew that! It was no wonder that she had to look after him so much, him being the youngest of them and all. Now Karolina flew out the hole and way, and Molly could only watch as she stood up again with Nico. Well, there was nothing for it now but to lead her friends to the roof and make sure they didn't get hurt along the way. If somebody hurt Karolina though... Her eyes were defiant as she looked out the hole. Even the bravest of people would have been scared by that look unless they were fools ( ... )

Billy exicuted a sudden turn, his power pushing outwards and downwards and crashing into the remaining flyers following him. Jet packs and weapons died sudden, electified deaths as Billy's mouth worked soundlessly. It was probably a good thing that he couldn't seem to bring himself to actually say what he was mouthing. Most of it was rather nasty. Billy was angry and scared, which was not a good combination.

He needed to find Teddy and make sure he was alright. If these bastards took him, he didn't know what he would do.

He didn't really register Karolina's presence until the last of his chasers went crashing downwards. "Have you seen Teddy?" he called. "Are you okay?"

"No and yes!" Karolina shouted back, coming up level with him. Pausing for a few seconds to fill each other in, even if the information was vital, seemed like a bad idea; they were VERY bright targets. "My friends and I are headed to the roof to take out these little ships. Maybe if we make a big enough scene they'll ignore Teddy long enough for us to put most of them out of the fight."

It seemed a fairly good plan, in a general sort of way. The aliens had used up their one shot with the element of surprise. If they could keep the Skrull and the Kree from successfully making off with Teddy by greater numbers, both factions would have to pull out and make another plan.

Wouldn't they?

Billy nodded sharply, and almost took off again in his search for Teddy when something occured to him. "Where's Xavin?" he asked, readying the spell to track down Teddy.

Karolina had been about to pull away and head further upward, but the thought brought her back down.

"I...I don't know," she admitted. She wasn't so worried; Xavin was more a warrior than she was, and she hadn't suffered anything worse than a spill and a nasty bruise. Now that she thought about it, though...

"She'd go after Altman too," she said, more certain of that than anything else in the chaos. "To protect him," she added hastily, "Not to make off with him."

The flyer she'd shot at from above had gotten back on course and zoomed up into their feet. Karolina broke away from Billy and sent a widespread wave of solid light after it as it tried to brake and wheel around. From the elbows down, her arms were lost in the shape of the wave. The ship floundered, lost momentum, and gave into the inexorable push of her light, crashing back through the wall of the building.
