The Obvious Child

There was one person inside the Tower who didn’t stumble as it came under Skrull fire. Kl’rt the Super-Skrull had not been expecting it, but he was able to absorb the shock through his more rubbery limbs. He had healed the damage from the altercation with the Kree over the young emperor, but it appeared that now was the time for another round ( Read more... )

Teddy swatted falling books away from Kate and Hawkeye's heads, the blood draining from his face.

So much for his day turning out well. He supposed that it was a miracle that they had waited this long to attack.

He needed to do something before someone got seriously hurt.

Teddy bounded out into the hallway, shifting into his Hulkling form and shredding his clothes - again. A small, hysterical voice pointed out that it probably didn't matter, because he was probably going to end the day dead or in the hands of people who didn't wear that kind of clothing, but Teddy wasn't interested in listening to it.

Luck was a human concept. Skill and fate led Kl'rt directly to Dorreck VIII.

"Hatchling!" He made no attempt to stretch and grab the heir, if the hatchling ran he could easily make his move. "You must come with me before the this building is leveled."

"Kl'rt! You're okay!" Teddy said, back-pedaling a little when he saw the Super-Skrull.

Well, at least the annoying pessimistic little voice was busy making whimpering noises that were easier to ignore.

"What's going on? Who's attacking us?!"

Oh god - is Billy still out of the Tower?

"Skrull and Kree battleships have come to claim you for their own. You must come with me if you hope to end this attack and spare the lives of your friends."

"Then there is another way to stop this." Teddy said, his mind racing. He just needed some exchange, something to make the masquerade worth Kl'rt's time...

He heard Kate humming a Final Fantasy theme and tried not to make a face. Damn, that was going to be stuck in his head for the rest of the day now. He'd need to fill her in on the plan, such as it was. He just needed Kl'rt to agree to it.

Ah!

"Could Dorrek-Vell, or whatever my real name is, get a test-run of both cultures?" he asked. "You know, like, stay with the Kree for awhile, get all sorts of information and crap from them, and then go spend time with the Skrulls before he had to make the choice?"

"If he knew what to look for, or what might be important and stuff, he could find out all sorts of information about what the Kree were planning -- not to mention it would extend the cease-fire for awhile longer, but that's a tangent for another time ( ... )

Clint walked into the room in civilian gear, a paper over his face. Apperently he was used to hearing arguing in the tower. He moved the paper down to his nose to see just who was arguing. To his surprise he saw the super skrull, who last time he checked, was one of the bad guys. He dropped the paper and walked over to Teddy and the super skrull.

"Someone want to tell me what the hell the godzilla reject is doing here? Let alone why this place is still in one piece?" Wait don't answer that. I'm going to go grab my bow."

"NO!" Teddy said, putting himself between Hawkeye and Kl'rt. "Don't shot him! Please!" he cast a look over his shoulder to where he had heard Kate humming. "Kate, help me out here!"

He really hoped that Xavin and Kl'rt wouldn't start fighting again. Note to self: When planning things involving the Super-Skrull, avoid all contact with other adults.

Clint's hand had curled into a fist, getting tighter in anger. He stared down Teddy, the younger looking skrull and the super skrull.

"Do you have a good reason? Are you going to tell me a guy like that has suddenly switched to the side of the angels."

The tone in Clint's voice wasn't very thrilled about having the super skrull right in front of him. But the kid was protecting him for some reason, it had to be good.
