We Are The Monsters

((Tag Frost!))

Kenny made a point of knowing what was going on around him in as much as anyone like him was capable. Some of the family curses were actually quite helpful in that regard.

He didn’t put much stock in those new-fangled mechanical contraptions. One strong spell, and they were always on the fritz. He had no talent for technomancy, ( Read more... )

Frost's operations had been expanding exponentially on a nightly basis. Every night meant that many more vampires, and that many more vampires meant much more of a power base both socially and physically for the young vampire blood god. When he had told Kenny that vampires were like a plague in and of themselves, he hadn't been kidding. The only difference was that there were people that wanted this plague, and even those that didn't initially were quite happy to become a part of it once they awoke with their very own set of lengthened canines.

He was sitting at his desk with his feet kicked up on it listening to rave techno on his iPod when the voice skittered through his mind. His fingers stopped moving on the keyboard on his lap, the screen pausing on text about the secret L.A. Pride revealed. He looked around, then up into the air.

"Telepathy huh? Nice trick. Now tell me, what's for me?"

Blade's mother walked up behind him and twined her arms around his neck. Or at least, the creature that looked like Blade's mother. It ( ... )

It’s a vampire. Kenny said, still watching the thing on his porch curiously. Not one of your new ones. Too old, and he feels all wrong for that.

The vampire started picking dirt from under his nails with his teeth, tapping one foot impatiently. He looked young, but he felt old. At least, old by mortal terms. Perhaps a century. Kenny sniffed. He’d fed well and recently, so he wouldn’t be a problem when it came to snacking.

But he wasn’t about to invite this vampire in just because he’d already fed. Not until Deacon had gotten a look at him. Never knew what was going on with vampire politics.

Frost perked up at that. The plague had wiped out a lot of vampires, but he wasn't stupid enough to think that it was even close to all of them. It was maybe all of the North American vampires...and more likely just all of the ones in the United States, or a large chunk of them. Blade and whatever little buddies he'd found probably thought they had a surefire way to rid the world of all vampirism. If they did think that, they were fucking idiots; no plague in the history of the world had ever affected the entire world. Geographical boundaries...like, for instance, the ocean...were pretty hard to overcome, especially for a plague that killed its victims instantaneously so they had no chance to travel and spread it ( ... )

The young vampire smiled all white teeth and sharp fangs as he ran a hand over his slicked back black hair, then executed a little bow that was almost bordering on cheeky. “I represent only myself, La Magra,” he said seriously, but there was just a hint of laughter in his voice. “Though I’m most recently out of L.A.”

He straightened, yellow eyes meeting Deacon’s for almost a second before they dropped. “You can call me Topher.”

"Not if she's dead." Frost's smirk remained in place, cold and calculating. He would let Topher have his fun, and he'd deal with the rest and take the staff. Topher knew them. He could get inside and pave the way for Deacon to come and take what he wanted.

Deacon tossed the blood back, feeling it slide down his throat. The power that coursed through it was fucking great. Lycanthropes were apparently so full of life.

"First time I've had a lycanthrope's blood." He licked his lips. "Nice."

"Things like the Staff are remarkably tenatious when they've got ahold of someone," Kenny said, rubbing the hilt of the Knife with one hand while Topher sipped at the blood. "The trick is to kill her without letting her bleed."

"Or talk." He sat the snifter to the side. "But the bleeding part...that shouldn't be a problem."

He shrugged. "Fuck, I could take all of her blood at once if I wanted to."

"That would be interesting to watch," Kenny said thoughtfully. "I wonder what would happen with the Staff if you did..."

"Why not just snatch the damn thing?" Topher asked. "Or am I missing some kind of very important point?"

"Magic thing. You wouldn't understand." Kenny said with a dismissive wave of his hand as someone started pounding on the door. "And that would be my guest... I think you may want to meet him, Deacon. He's something of an expert on Daywalkers."
