They Can Weave Their Spell, Weave Their Spell

Teddy and Billy followed Captain America down the stairs to meet with Mrs. Xanathos. Billy was probably the only one who was required, but Teddy was feeling a bit tactile and no one had told him to stay put anyway ( Read more... )

Billy kept his hand firmly in Teddy's as he approached the irate magus. He stopped, looking around. "Holy cow, is that Jamie Madrox?" he asked, a hint of fanboy squeek creeping into his voice.

"There seem to be a lot of him," Rowena said dryly. "Where's Eliza?"

"Someone's going to get her right now," Billy said quickly. "She's fine."

"You're sure?"

Billy blinked. "It's Avengers Tower."

"Which just got attacked," Rowena pointed out, taking a long drag off her cigarette, "by a bunch of aliens."

"She's fi-"

"Where's Cyrus?"

The question came out of left field, having been thrown out by Cleo, who had managed to come up behind Billy and Teddy. She glared down at them, her hands on her hips. "Well?"

Teddy only jumped a little bit when the pregnant woman sneaked up on them.

"The big werewolf guy?" he asked, then bit his tongue, glancing nervously over at Mrs. Xanathos. He hoped that he hadn't just blown a big family secret. Although the pregnant woman did look a little like Eliza and Mrs. Xanathos. "Um, I don't know. I didn't see him during the fight. Maybe he's with Eliza?"

Teddy entwined his fingers with Billy's, frowning a bit. He'd forgotten about all of the other people in the Tower. "Uh, if you don't mind me asking, who are you?"

"Cleo. Back down, you're scaring the boys," Rowena said, a hint of a groan in her voice. "Billy, you remember Cleo..."

"Um. Were you one of the ones who tried to drown me?" Billy asked suspiciously, his hand tightening around Teddy's as he took a step back and looked up.

Cleo shook her head. "That would have been Kara and Beth. Yes, they're my sisters, no, I'm not like them, and yes, Cyrus is the 'big werewolf guy'. And he's my little brother. And I want to see him." She tapped her foot on the pavement, looking from one boy to the other and growling softly.

"I'm sure he'll be right down," Billy said quickly.

"Cleo." Rowena said warningly. "Back. Down."

"Yes, Grandma."

Teddy licked his lips and tried to supress the urge to push Billy behind him. Okay, so this was Cyrus' older sister, and not one of the ones that had tried to drown Billy -- someone had tried to drown Billy?

The growling was a bit disturbing. Teddy wondered if Cleo was a werewolf too.

Ooh boy. A pregnant werewolf. Getting her upset was definitely a bad plan.

"Someone's going to get him right now." he reaffirmed Billy's statement.

“Because it takes me a few minutes to think things through,” Cleo said calmly, smiling an entirely too sharp smile at Teddy. “When he’s scared, Cyrus hides. It’s what he’s best at. And Grandma sure as hell isn’t the only mage running around in this family, so he’s putting some serious mojo into it.”

She swept her hand through her black and magenta hair, pursing her lips. “That’s why the spell backfired. He probably hasn’t even realized that the aliens are gone and it’s safe to come out.”

Billy was still taking gasping breaths, tears of pain in his eyes. “Why?” he gasped out. “He’s a werewolf.”

“He’s an omega.” Cleo said with a little shrug, looking around. “He won’t come out, and he’s probably diverting anyone who comes too close. Don't see me, don't find me. Eliza's probably with him.”

"So what do you suggest we do?" Teddy snapped. Anger and exhaustion were battling for control. He was probably going to feel bad later, but he didn't think he could calm down right now. "Wait for him to calm down and come out of hiding?"

“If we did that, we’d be here forever,” Cleo said with a shake of her head and a grin. “We need to figure out where he’s holed up and make him come out. We send someone who doesn’t scare the bejezus out of him to talk to him.” Her grin faltered and disappeared altogether. “We’re fucked.”

Teddy bit his tongue so as not to snap something sarcastic in response. Sarcasm wouldn't help the situation. He took a deep breath and released it through his nose.

"So what do you suggest we do?"
