Rowena groaned, her arms shaking as she pushed herself up. Something was horribly wrong. She knew it. She shouldn't have been asleep in the middle of the kitchen, in the middle of the day, and she couldn't feel the void of Eliza anywhere about. And it was far too quiet. Where was everyone

"Where are they...?"
The Vision clawed his way up out of the darkness. The EMP blast had left him a little scrambled, he could already tell. Fortunately, the thirtieth-century technology seemed to be reparing itself just fine.
What had been happening again?
There was someone standing over him. Mr. Stark? Mr. Stark, when did you get so old and gray? The Vision opened his mouth to ask but the only thing that came out was some gibberish about a cucumbers and FTB protocols.

Rowena was not well known for her technological aptitude. In fact, she was rather famous in her family for "accidentily" destroying her cell phone on a regular basis. A quick check showed her that that particular 'modern conveniance' was no longer working. "Damn."
The old woman regarded the robot for a long moment, then did what she always did when something more high tech than a pully stopped working.
She kicked him. Twice.

There was a little voice screaming in his ear. Snap out of it? He could snap. He had fingers, yes, there they were! Fingers!
"[That'll put marzipan in your pie plate, bingo!]"
The Vision beamed up at Mr. Stark. No, not Mr. Stark. Unless Mr. Stark wore frilly aprons. Did Mr. Stark wear frilly aprons? The Vision wasn't sure that he wanted to know.
Focus! shouted the little voice. Hey, it sounded like his own voice.
The Vision focused. He blinked up at Mrs. Xanathos.
"[What happened?]"

She cocked her head to one side. "You were the one in the yellow pimpcoat. Viz, right? Or do you prefer Iron Lad, or something like that?" She sniffed. "Not that you look much like those pictures in the paper."

What'n the hell happened here? he asked, eyeing the robot with only a hint of curiosity. It looked like the Vision, kind of, but the Vision had gotten ripped apart ages ago. And this guy was too small.

He cocked his head to the side. "[You said that "they" had taken Penny. Do you know who "they" could be or am I just jamming my foot into my mouth again?]"
The Vision frowned slightly as he peered at the man. The state of his hair and clothing suggested that he had been running, but he wasn't even breathing hard.
Come to think of it, he wasn't breathing at all.
The Vision wasn't going to ask about that, though. That way lay yelling and people being upset at him and he wasn't interested in dealing with that right now.

Not a good situation in the least.
He'd left a message on M's answering machine, but he honestly didn't expect anything to come of it.
A bit of movement by the kitchen door caught Jono's eye, and he looked towards it. Blimey..."Hello, Starsmore." Rowena said, giving a regal nod of her head. Her long white hair was tied up in a braid as thick as her wrist, and dangled over one shoulder like a silver river. She was still clad in black from head to toe, but instead of the long sleaved blouse and skirt she wore a black robe that looked more like the space between stars than anything that had ever been made on earth. It was embrodered with something ( ... )

How could he forget to call the Avengers? It must have been the EMP. It had to be ( ... )

The Vision kicked into flight and snagged Patriot around the waist, bringing them both gently to the ground. Patriot pulled away and gave him a strange look and the Vision held up his hands in apology. He'd been going on autopilot as he tried to adjust to the sudden change of scene and Iron Lad's brain patterns had reminded him that Patriot couldn't fly.
Of course, Patriot also didn't like to be picked up or grabbed, but it had seemed a better idea than letting the other Young Avenger drop like a rock.
The Vision looked around, allowing his internal map and compass to adjust to their new position and checking for possible giant insect-things with big sharp teeth. Fortunately, there weren’t any, at least not within attacking range.
“[Is everyone all right?]” He asked. Patriot grunted, straightening his uniform and also looking around for possible aggressors.

Rowena picked a stick out of her braid and looked around, then raised her staff and pointed. "Vanessa is that way. And where she is, they are." She started off at a surprisingly fast clip for such an old bird, a very determined look on her face. It was the kind of look that fortold much pain in the near future for anyone who got in her way.

"[Do you think that she's keeping everyone in the same place?]" he asked. "[Or will she try and make our rescue mission that much harder?]"
And what were they going to do with Sinesis afterward? They couldn't just leave her running loose - she'd probably just capture other people to experiment on. She also could probably guess the identities of the Young Avengers, which made her even more dangerous, to both them and their families and friends. But where could they turn her in? She was part of the government, after all. She probably had immunity or something.
Ugh. Evil shadow governments. How depressing. Maybe he could...
No. The Vision shook his head. He wasn't going to go down that path. He reached up and nervously tapped on the control crystal on his forehead. It wasn't really a control crystal, since he wasn't that Vision, but still. Trying to fix things that way ( ... )

A tree near them caught fire, crackling away merrily. "That was me." she said, sounding faintly appologetic.
Bloody hell!

"One, "as fast as possible" and two, "we'll find each other"." Patriot answered. The Vision shot him a mildly annoyed look and Patriot rolled his eyes. "Come on, we're wasting valuable rescue time."
"[And your granddaughter? Is there anything we should know about her - no skin-to-skin contact or something?]" the Vision asked, deliberately ignoring Patriot's exasperated sigh.

She started chanting quietly as Starsmore grabbed the Vision's arm and started pulling him along. She truely didn't want them around to see what she was about to do. She could feel the guards in there, heading for a hole to clog it up. If they were quick, the boys could get in there before the guards got to thick.
They weren't bad men, those guards. Not in the way a supervillain was bad. They were just doing their jobs. They probably had families to feed and people who would miss them.
But Rowena was going to kill them anyway.

The Vision broke away from Mr. Starsmore and landed a good, solid punch on one of the approaching guards. The guard went down like a sack of bricks and the Vision pushed onwards. Though, on second thought....
He picked up one of the guards with his left hand and transformed his right into a blade. "[Where are the holding cells?]" he asked pleasantly, bringing the blade-arm to the man's throat. "[And do explain quickly - we're on a time limit, and if you're not willing to explain, I'm sure one of these other gentlemen would be.]"
He hoped the guard bought it. The Vision really didn't want to kill him - the man was just doing his job, after all.

"There are cells scattered all over the complex!" the guard finally squeeked out. "Pleaseplease don't hurt me I don't know where they are I'm just doing my job!"

At least, that's what the Vision chose to believe. Most people wouldn't experiment on children. They didn't.
