She no longer cries to herself, no tears left to wash away. But she will sing till everything burns

Rowena was watching the stairs as Eliza came down, thundering like a herd of elephants and swearing up a blue streak. She was closely followed by Billy and the other teenagers. The magus let out a longsuffering sigh and rolled her eyes to Clint. “Called it,” she announced, getting to her feet as slowly as if the metaphorical weariness she felt ( Read more... )

"We're not very good at not getting involved." Teddy agreed, flanking his boyfriend. "Besides, Cyrus is terrified. Is there anything we can do to help? With or without coming with you?"

He nodded in greeting to Hawkeye and rested a hand on Billy's shoulder. He wondered if he ought to try and get between Eliza and her grandmother to keep them from fighting. Or if getting between them would even stop them.

"Cyrus is afraid because he's the smart one," Rowena said. "Go home."

"You're going to get him killed," Eliza accused.

"Nonsense. The boy has enough sense to get away when he's done his part. Which you lot will not be involved in." The immortal did her best to glare threateningly at the teenagers. Unfortunately, she was several inches shorter than even the shortest of them, and looked like an underfed waif. "We've already called the Avengers on this, and as much as I hate agreeing with Rogers, I'm absolutely certain he'll back me up on this.

Clint walked over next to Rowena and looked at her in a serious, professional tone. Which of course, should scare her right away. Clint Barton had started considering himself the kids protector and was going to make sure they didn't get involved here. The best way to do that, was to at least tell them the truth. He put his hand on Rowena's shoulder and then looked over to the boys standing before him.

"I've got this one, they at least deserve the truth. I mean, they are always telling us the truth, even if its only have of it. Ok, we are going on a rescue mission here. There's a young guy named ricochet, who apparently has been captured in new York. We have to go save him, but this is going to be dangerous, so we need you guys to stay back for once. Trust me, I know your good, but if the worst happens we are going to need someone to bring in the reservists. Do we have a deal?"

Billy let out a noise that could only have been described as squeeky and fanboyish, and probably would have started spouting off about his little obession right then and there if not for the matching glares from Rowena and Eliza.

"I could be in and out before anyone knew I was there," Billy finally pointed out, swallowing his fanboyness for the moment. "I can teleport."

"And you would promptly draw Sinesis' attention," Rowena pointed out dryly.

Clint had been leaning into the wall the whole time, he wanted to see the kids succesfully pull off the argument with Rowena. He went to open the door and came face to face with a very stern looking Captain America.

"Clint don't you know how...."

"Hey Steve, good to see you too. Do me a favor, whatever happens during this mission, stay away from windows. I got a bet going."

With that, clint moved out of the doorway and let Captain America through, followed by the rest of the Avengers. Clint smirked as Spidey stopped next to him.

"How much is the bet at?"

He grinned.

"We didn't really set a price yet, why you want in?"

"I could hear their last fight from roof of Avengers tower, I'm thinking she'll find something more than a window to put him through this time."

"Thats why I've always liked you spidey, now come on. We have a battle to plan."

With that, Clint and Spidey joined the others deeper inside the room.

“Speak of the devil…” Rowena murmured as Captain America came into the kitchen. “Captain Rogers.” She inclined her head slightly, then looked down her nose at the rest of the Avengers (which was something of a feat, considering the fact that she was almost two feet shorter than most of them). “Touch nothing. I’ve got health codes to consider.”

“Sir,” Billy said, feeling slightly uncomfortable under the gaze of one of the world’s most famous super-heroes. He straightened his shoulders and prepared to dig in his proverbial heels.

“I want it stated for the record,” Rowena said, “that having the children along is not my idea.”

"Yeah, it was mine. They aren't children anyways, they are teenagers. We don't have time to fight about this either, we need our plan and we need to go now."

Clint's voice had become serious. It was time for action, not more arguing.

"I don't know why I'm going to even bother explaining the plan," Rowena said, "since nobody ever listens to me. But it is an astonishingly simple one. We find Vanessa and Ricochet... which I already have Edward on, which is why we are going up to my workroom where nobody will touch anything no matter how interesting it looks... from there, everyone but Cyrus makes a giant fuss so Vanessa comes out to deal with us. Cyrus sneaks in, grabs Ricochet, sneaks out, and we scarper off, hopefully before she realizes what'd happened." She looked around. "THAT is the plan. Does anyone have any agruments?"
