In Hot Water (cue the cannons!)

"I'm not going to ask what you all were thinking, going after Hulkling."  Captain America said, doing his level best to keep his voice calm... and not doing a very good job of it.  "But I do want to know what was going through your minds when you broke him," he thrust an finger in Tommy's direction, "out of a federal institution."

They were in the ( Read more... )

Cassie stared after Tommy and Spider-Man, wishing she had an excuse to get out of the room as well. She wasn't used to being on the bad side of the Avenger's, and to say it was awkward was an understatement. "What can you do? You've all ready told my mom. Billy's parents know, and Kate, well" She glanced at her friend. "Even if her father believed her she wouldn't listen to him."

Eli finally managed to stop chewing his tongue in frustration long enough to get his thoughts in order. He had been trying his best to stay calm and not snap at the Avengers - after all, the last time he had interacted with them, he had been coming down off of MGH and quitting the team. This time his head was clear and he was apparently back in the position of leader of the Young Avengers.

He had screwed it up in the past, but this time he was going to earn his position back.

"You can't force us to stop." he said, standing by Cassie. "You tried that already and it didn't work. All you can really do is tell our families, and like Cassie already blew holes in that plan."

He spread his hands, challenging. It was the Avenger's move now. Tommy and Billy and Teddy were out of the room now - Eli was willing to bet that the "discussion" was going to get a lot more heated now.

"You're mistaken. This isn't about what we're going to do to you, Patriot. It's what we're going to do to help you." Luke Cage said, sliding the chair Wiccan had vacated away from the table and sitting in it. "Sit. We'll talk. Won't we, Iron Man?"

::Running preliminary search.::

"You and Cap can talk. I've got things I need to do," Iron Man said. "There's a lot of damage control that needs to be done after tonight. I'll make a list of questions to ask the kids later, after I finish making arrangements." Questions like why the reports coming in were saying that the Altman's boy's mother was a Skrull when the boy had mentioned nothing of the sort. "When Teddy comes back, let him know that he's welcome to stay in the Tower until his situation has been figured out."

Iron Man paused beside Cassie's chair on his way out, ruffling her hair gently. "You should have listened to us before when we told you to stop... we're not happy about it, but that doesn't mean we won't help you when you need it, Cass."

Patriot eyed Luke Cage suspiciously, but sat down across from him.

"I think I can handle talking."

Eli really hoped that this meant that the Avengers were going to take them seriously now.

"That should be fine, sir." Teddy said as he stood, palm flat between Billy's shoulder blades as he moved towards Jarvis and the door, pushing his boyfriend along in front of him with only the slightest bit of super-strength to help guide him along.

No, it wasn't okay. Nothing was okay. But the last thing they needed to do was antagonize one of the real Avengers, not when they were in this big of a mess. If Billy couldn't stay calm and in control, then Teddy would. Even if the last thing he wanted to do right now was deal with this.

Billy was tense all the way out the door... then his shoulders sagged and he let out a long breath. "Sorry," he murmured. "Oh god, I messed that up big time." He pulled off his head gear and ran a hand through his hair.

"Don't worry about it," Teddy muttured as they walked down the hallway behind the butler. There were far more important things to worry about and deal with than Billy losing it at Iron Man. He stopped abruptly, his hand falling away from the back of Billy's cape as he leaned against the wall in the hallway. "Can we -- can we wait a second?" He was going to lose it when he saw Mrs. Kaplan. He just knew it. She'd try to comfort him, she'd try to be Mom-like, and he would lose it.

"Sure. We can take as long as you like." Billy said. He reached out a hand towards Teddy, then hesitated. "I... God, everything I want to say sounds really stupid when I think about it, so I'll shut up now."
