My crudeness...I am finding, as a writer, that I must put aside my own "niceness," or I may miss something.

Yes, you really have to get out of yourself if you want to write characters that won't be little versions of yourself. I wrestle with it myself. When I'm writing, I'll think 'oh that's a horrible thing for a person to say' but yet that's what fits for the character.

It's hard sometimes, but I don't think I can create any antagonist/villain without divorcing myself from my creation, and embracing the fact that people do talk and act different from me.
