Carlos/Reiko
PG
Reiko moved around the gallery, her drink making her palm wet. The ice had long since melted. The thrill of being back in New York and hitting the latest gallery show had also long since worn off. She loved New York City, but sometimes it was just too pretentious for it's own good. She slid to the right to examine the next set of artwork. This particular show featured pieces from famous people. All the proceeds were for charity and she'd talked herself into going with that line. Well that and she needed something new for her den.
She didn't even want to admit that it also had something to do with being alone on a Friday night.
"Having fun?"
Reiko turned and smiled at her agent. Julie loved these things. It was all about presence. Must be why she's a good manager.
Julie switched out the drink in Reiko's hand, shaking off the moisture. "You're not drinking enough."
Reiko rolled her eyes at the blonde. Not for the first time, she wondered why Julie hadn't gone into acting herself. "Does that make the art better?"
Julie snorted. "There isn't enough alcohol for that. Although some have potential." She took a sip of her drink and watched as Reiko nodded and did the same. Grinning over her cup she asked "Did you see Carlos' work?"
Sputtering and her face flaming from Julie having to pat her on the back to keep from choking she gasped out "What?"
"Carlos. You know, that hot on screen husband of yours? He has a few pieces here." Reiko's look of confusion stayed. "I figured that's why you came. I'm honestly shocked you didn't know. You guys are attached at the hip."
Reiko glared back at that and straightened her skirt nervously. "We are not. We just...get along well."
"Sure. Last time I "got along" that well with a man I made him my third husband." Before Reiko could comment, Julie continued. "When was the last time you spoke to him?"
Glancing around, sub-consciously, Reiko expected Carlos to appear as if he knew they were talking about him. "It's been a few months. I got the SGU job and he...things weren't going well at home."
She was about to continue when she noticed Julie looking at her strangely. "What is it?"
The other woman took another sip of her drink. "You might want to down that before you look at his work." She pointed towards Reiko's cup, the ice in her own sliding around precariously. "You're gonna need it."
Julie motioned back to the far left corner. Reiko set her drink on a table as she passed, making her way towards too large canvases. There wasn't much color to them, but it didn't make them any less breath taking. She'd seen his work before so his talent didn't surprise her. Browns and deep greens flowed around on the surface. The brush strokes were thick and she could imagine his hand swishing back and forth to produce the effect. There was nothing actually drawn in the panting, but she just knew it was something personal and important to him. She could feel it in the precise way he seemed to speak through the strokes. Still, it wasn't anything she felt she needed to get hammered for.
Reiko felt Julie walk up to her side; heard the ice in her cup as she drank. "I don't see anything Julie. What's supposed to be so upsetting?"
Julie looked at the paintings, then sighed. "Check the name."
Reiko leaned down closer to the small 3x5 card printed with block text. Carlos Bernard, oil on canvas, "Her Eyes"
Slowly she straightened up, blinking back at the name card.
Julie voiced what had gone through Reiko's mind "His wife's eyes are blue, aren't they?"
It took a few moments, but Reiko finally spoke. "Julie?"
"Yeah honey?" She laid a comforting hand on Reiko's shoulder.
"I'm gonna need another drink."
