OK, technically, this came in second in the poll -- but only by one vote, and I think that "Before the Beginning" might be better in the fall. It's summer now, too hot to think, and that means we should all have a little fun. And on Alias, the most fun was always the clever disguises. Which means it's time for:
The Aliases Ficathon
Name a first- and second-choice character and the disguise you'd like each in. Then give up to three other elements you'd like the story to contain. Then list three characters you'd most like to write and two you won't. We'll take it from there. A sample form:
Name: Yahtzee
E-mail: yahtzee at yahtzee dot yahtzee
First Choice: Irina in dominatrix gear
Story elements for first choice: J/I, a Shakespeare quote, angry!sex
Second Choice: Dixon in NYPD uniform
Story elements for second choice: Dixon/Chase, angst, deep conversation with Sydney
Most eager to write: Sloane, Sydney, Renee
Won't write: Vaughn, Jack
(You can tell from that last entry that this is NOT my personal entry, just a sample.)
Have fun thinking up outlandish costumes AND for thinking of plots that will fit the costume you're give. You will write (and receive) one story (first OR second choice, author's call) of at least 1,000 words. The deadline will be Wednesday, September 13, which gives you plenty of time to write. (Sign-ups will last through Wednesday, August 9.)
Obviously, there is nothing to stop you from inventing various joke costumes ("Vaughn in a clown suit!"), but I recommend trying to flow with the vibe of the show: campy costumes, but ones that lend themselves to scenarios that can be dramatic or funny or sexy, by turns. The stories will be better that way, I think.
Please sign up! If the results are half as good as the "Dearly Departed" ficathon, we will get some wonderful stories this way.

In other news: I really would like some digital pictures of myself that are not five years old and/or of me squinting into the sun near various tourist attractions. However, after The Rome Debacle, I do not so much trust myself with my camera. Is there a place in NYC you can get this done for cheap? Or an aspiring photog out there seeking highly unphotogenic model, as test of skill? Let me know.
