Perhaps it's "easier" to have everything look the same, but the world would be a lot less interesting if there were only five types of people, or only two types of tree! That may be the case in old videogames, but that's a limitation, present because the technology wasn't capable of having the kind of variety inherent in real life.

anyway... have you heard about the looming banana crisis? i keep hearing from different sources that bananas are dangerously close to extinction; i don't know how true it really is, but it isn't hard to believe. of course, then we'd probably just have some kind of high-fructose corn syrup-infused plantains to replace them... *blech*
also, i think part of the problem with "organic" fanatacism is the name: i mean, doesn't that sound good? who would want to eat something that was inorganic? "pass the edible petrolium product whipped topping, please!" i think it should be called something else... i don't think it would be so popular if it was called unsuplemented,

I actually haven't heard about the Banana issue. Are they close to extinction from overharvesting, from sterilization (I did hear that a modern banana can not grow into a banana tree...), or from global warming
