My computer, which I have had for three years, now runs Windows 8, is much faster, has lost all the OEM gunk, and is fun. iTunes works as well, I have to see whether paint.net is enough or whether I need to get PaintshopPro back, and GTalk runs in Pidgin which the old setu refused to do ( Read more... )

Why does w8 not allow for fonts? Or are you just talking GTS here.

My worry is that (for a non technician like me) w8 will complete the circle and make it completely impossible to get into the underbelly of the pc system and fix things? It got very hard in w7 and everyone goes the google tumblr bigbrotherwantsdrones route.

Oh, I simply misplaced the fonts/forgot to copy them off the old installation. We redid the computer from scratch because of all that shitty OEM gunk on the machine. McAfee may call itself an antivirus, but behaves just like a virus in the end... I have them all on the old machine which is still sitting in my cupboard, and will get them off there.
