Ah, Friday afternoons feel so lazy sometimes, but I'll be here for another few hours before the day is out.  So far this internship at Island Def Jam Records has been relatively interesting and I even saw Jay-Z and Ludacris a couple weeks ago.

Your internship sounds like a dream I had a couple of weeks ago..
I'd love that =D I came across your journal through a friends.
Funny, our views on valentines are similar, only you put it from a male perspective, nice little spin on values I already believe in.
I put you on my friends list =)

Glad you enjoyed reading my male perspective on Valentine's Day... I don't mean to bash on it though. I think it's nice to have a day dedicated to the concept of love, but I just feel some people take it too seriously and let it affect their relationships more than it should.

Congratulations on becoming an uncle :) Averie's a beautiful name.

By the way, why are you interning at Island Def Jam? Is it related to what you want to do later or is it just for fun (it sounds exciting). Have you seen the Killers?

Eww, don't remind me about V-Day! I think what makes it awkward is the whole "should" aspect. Are you going out for a special dinner and giving each other presents "just because" or because society says that's the proper thing to do? Isn't love and affection supposed to be all about irrationality? Or just, not needing to justify what you do for the other person.

About the positive qualities. I actually don't like doctors! I know I'm discriminating, maybe there's a good one out there. But lawyers are so much better, hehe. I think it's more about society's tendency to quantify things. Character and personality traits are less objective, less visible and ultimately less valuable in society. But ironically, I find that it's these intangible tangibles that matter in the end.

The internship isn't as exciting as it might seem, but it's giving me a glimpse into the music industry world. I'm learning about the basid agreements and contracts that the music industry utilizes, etc. I haven't had a chance to meet the Killers just yet though. =P

I agree with you about the value of character and personality, but people are often more comfortable with things they can see and measure... such as a good career, cars, homes, etc. I think it's also due to the fact that it's easier to utilize objective standards when evaluating a relationship. I'm not saying it's a good way to do it, but I think society often shapes the way we make these determinations.
