So one of my LJ freinds posted a long post about womans behavior in the bathroom (there was alot more to it but I am not going to go into that) anyway in it she mentions that in the bathroom at her work there is a couch, ok I have NEVER understood this at all, why would you want a couch in a bathroom? I can understand, maybe a chair, girls have ( Read more... )

in case you are picturing it different, you walk in and there is a sitting room, with the two couches. then you go through a doorway [no door] where the two stalls are, and sink.

most womens' restrooms have "lounges" preceding the room with the toilets. they tend to only show up in older bathrooms, or ones at fancy places, so i wonder if they have something to do with women needing to adjust corsets, girdles, clothing or - i don't know. maybe from days when women needed chaperonnes, so they had somewhere to sit while the lady went potty? cos really, they are mostly in fancy places, and retail places, hotels, theatres, really expensive restaurants....

anyways, when i am falling asleep at work, i take a 10 or 15 minute nap on those exact couches.

I remember being VERY young, like two, three, too young to go to the bathroom by myself, and my mother taking me into the ladies' room at Sears, and it had one of these lounges. Couches, mirrors....then you go into the mens' room and it's like a North Korean prison.

exactly! women's restrooms get VERY glamourous. i am surprised most don't have an espresso cart in them.

YOU ARE WEIRD

what if someone has to do a solid? I don't want someone listing to me while I land one...

the Lounge thing makes a little sense, but still why do they exhist now? its not like you sit and knit on the thing do you?

Two possibly misguided reasons I could think of would be that it seems like Women's rooms tend to have longer lines, so maybe the couches are to help with the wait. Otherwise, maybe nursing?

Nuring I can see, but a chair would work for that.

on the line thing, oh great just what I want to do sit and wait next to exploding fart lady, when she has to do a bad log...

My experience has been that women are better at pretending to be not as coarse as men in these sorts of situations.
