I agree. I always felt the term, "Seven year itch", was based on reality. I feel our lives run in seven year cycles where we go through significant fundamental change and it's often hard for partners to go along.

Then if you want to renew you can. People leave marriages all the time, at least the other partner might be more prepared.

I know this an old post, but this was my ideal for marriage since I came up with it as a teenager. I originally felt it should be renewable contract. Now I'm married and imagine I'll want to stay that way, but I still think "marriage as a renewable contract" is a good idea. It would make many people's inevitable divorces less complicated and less guilt-filled.
