My boy Daniel (Darth Maul) has been in Senegal for almost a week and I have more than two weeks to go until I can see him again.
I told them not to waste money calling me unless D. really really wanted to because it's so unlikely I'd even be home and I remember when i was young and homesick and wanted to call my parents it almost never helped. He's ( Read more... )

He'll be home in no time. It's nice he has a mom that loves him so much.

Neat! Oh, speaking of Senegal, there's a great icon maker on LJ and she made some icons with a Senegal theme:

the idea of homesickness makes my heart hurt. it's just one of those feelings i can mentally feel... i've never felt homesick though. nostalgic, yes, homesick... not really.

i hope he comes back safe and sound and soon enough :-)

btw, we have to talk french books again. i don't know if you ever got into french north african lit, but it's so dry, especially the algerian authors! Have you read La Terre et le Sang ? Or Nedjma (aaah!) What about L'enfant de sable ? (I switch back and forth between English and French capitalization standards, pardon me.)

No-look at you you're so current, maybe they are subconciously immitating the dry, cold narrative of the French Algerian in L'etranger:
"Aujourd'hui j'ai tue l'arabe." You know? Or maybe they are rejecting the flowery bullshit language of the traditional French classics.
I gotta read some more in french, it's been a while.

it kills me. but I think when we run out of cheap oil, here in teh midwest will be one of the safer locations as far as growing/raising your own food, not needing as much in the way of air conditioning, proximity to fresh water, etc...
