Fifteen minutes after leaving Cardinal Dirae's estate, Seiko ruminated on the events of the last couple of hours.
Her heart was lighter for having spoken her mind. Decision made, she accepted the fact that she could not step away from the path she'd placed herself upon.
Her mind shifted to the ramifications of her decision and as always, she'd chosen to ignore the easy path.
She pulled the Mercedes over to the side of the road so she could concentrate without distraction. She thought of the last hundred years. She thought of the significant events in her life, the important people who had shaped her in subtle ways. She thought of the future and the tentative friendships that had begun to take root and grow...but one thought dominated them all.
I am an idiot. This is a disaster.
Her hands tightened on the steering wheel, the leather creaked in protest.
There is only one way to go. And that's forward. No regrets, right?
She slipped the car back into drive and eased back onto the road.
She whispered, "No regrets."

As she pulled into the driveway of the formidable estate, she relaxed.
I made the right decision. And if it should lead to my demise somehow..well, I will die content.
She chuckled at her optimistically fatal thoughts and got out of the car.
If anything, life won't be boring for quite some time.
She smiled and walked inside.
