You once thought Gokudera reminded you a bit of a puppy. All obedient, tail wagging, ready and waiting to please his master - ready to please Tsuna-Tenth you hear Gokudera say- your friend.
Is Tsuna Gokudera’s friend? You’re not sure about that. You figure Gokudera sees Tsuna as more than just a friend (You insistently ignore that voice beside your ear that says that makes you jealous because really, why should you be?). Gokudera doesn’t think like you though so maybe Tsuna is just a friend to him and you've read it all wrong (Reading wasn't really your strong point anyway).
Gokudera’s mind is like that jigsaw puzzle you tried when you were a kid, only this time half the pieces are missing - No, not missing, you correct yourself, just out of your reach. No doubt that’s where they’ll stay if he has anything to say about it.
You don’t need Gamma to remind you that, yes, Gokudera hates you. Rather fervently at that. Really you could do without that mini Gamma on your shoulder reminding you that HE’D stand a better chanced of befriending the firecracker that is Smokin’ Bomb Hayato. At least Gamma has something in common with Gokudera, even if it is a kind of obsessive loyalty (or maybe an obsessive need to please their masters? Yeah, you’re not sure on that one either).
If mini-Gamma implies you’re jealous one more time you may need to go work on your accuracy - batting average - because really, if you can hit something that small and squirmy Reborn would no doubt be proud.
Would Gokudera? You’re know the answer to that one, but you can still hope (dream).
With those lovely thoughts in your head you figure it’s about time to take the puppy’s bone away. It’s not that you don’t like puppies, it’s just that, well, it’s GOKUDERA.

Gokudera growls, proverbial fur standing on end, “You’re late Baseball nut!”
You laugh, HA! Maybe he’s not a puppy after all! More like a cat, maybe. That glare certainly lends more weight towards the cat, puppies are too doe eyed. Of course, you’re willing to admit that Gokudera can be doe eyed, if it’s for Tsuna.
Shut up Mini-Gamma, shut up.
The only reason the thought of a doe eyed Gokudera bothers you is simply because it’s too much of a contradiction to who Gokudera is. That’s all; it has nothing to do with who the look is aimed at - not at all. Gokudera’s just too lively, too feisty to be going doe eyed towards people. It’s just fundamentally wrong.
He hisses and fangs are bared, “What the fuck are you laughing at? You…”
Yeah, you know, he’s still talking, but this is “Yamamoto is in the wrong” rant number two (Number two because he uses it so often, number one of course, is surrounding Tsuna- you’re too close, don’t touch Tenth, don’t disappoint Tenth, etc). Besides seeing him prepare to pounce is more entertaining anyway.
“… You kept Tenth waiting…,” growl, hiss, hiss.
And there’s Tsuna’s voice, all timid and hesitant, “Ah, no, no! It’s okay!”
You laugh, “Sorry Tsuna!”
Really, you didn’t mean to forget he was there, but you can’t figure out if Gokudera’s a puppy or a cat. Though really, it’s starting to look like he’s a cat more and more.
“Tenth,” Gokudera coos (Yes, you reassure yourself, coos.), “Whatever you say!”
Yeah, defiantly a cat. He’s deceptively docile on the surface, but underneath he’s just waiting for the first opportunity to pounce on his prey - mainly you (No Mini-Gamma that does not thrill you.). If you stroked him right he’d probably even purr!
Mini-Gamma seems to have found that funny.
You laugh.
He attacks, “Don’t worry Boss I’ll handle this!”
POUNCE!
In between dodging dynamite you think, hey! Uri’s got a playmate now! Though maybe you should get Gokudera declawed first, just to make sure Uri won’t get hurt of course.
You laugh, he growls.
A.N.: When I first started reading the manga I had thought… hey okay Gokudera seems to care about Tsuna, and then Tsuna opened his mouth again and I about fell out of my chair (It hurt). For a few seconds I had forgotten that Tsuna was so whiney.
As I read it more I realized how little Gokudera IS Gokudera around Tsuna, trying too hard to please him and loosing himself in the process. Little by little I stopped caring to pair them up; it just seemed like more of a lie than anything else.
Then I saw this:
All I could say was ASFKDS!!! OH-EM-GE! How goes Yamamoto know how Gokudera feels?
My brain has melted into goo now. I must restart the anime to see how I could have missed all the hints about these two.
