i know i haven't updated in forever and i will get around to that, but for now:

can anyone think of an interesting trend or phenomenon that has been happening (relatively) recently? for example zombie walk, return to 3D, rise of arranged marriages, etc.

/still asking LJ for help with homework

In the western world there's apparently a rise in, or change in the frequency of (can't recall) sexually transmitted diseases as a result of changing sexual practices. That's a trend right there.

'frequency of certain types of STDs' rather.

The apotheosis of geek culture/identity.

what do you have in mind when you say that?

Nowadays, geek is the new cool. Geek know-how, geek fashion ("geek chic"), gadgets, design, retro-geek-nostalgia, and the misappropriation of geek culture in general.

Geeks used to be simply geeks; now there are hierarchies and classifications of geek: food geek, comic book geek, furniture geek, etc.

Geek Chic. Militant Atheism. Anti-Americanism. Ventriloquism. Gamer Shows.

This is just off the top of my head.

Flickr trends...? ;) Constellations, triangles, pagan shiznay, witchcraft, etc etc. Bu I've also noticed Native American culture being portrayed often. Feathers and teepees and such.

That 3D stuff pisses me off. :p Just because it's everywhere all of a sudden (and costs just a little more to see in theatres).

Equestrian based clothing seems to be on the rise too. As in I'm pretty sure my sister is walking around in her riding breeches but she swears they came from a mall.

I'm not very observant it seems.

hah, Flickr doesn't help me that much. i'm thinking more about trends in culture.

i know! i hate 3D, it gives me headaches. i have to wear the special glasses over my own glasses and they never align properly or something, and i get eyestrain. D: i refuse to go see 3D movies.

oh man, i'm asking LJ's help here, so i'm completely awful at observing things, too! i've even had tried searching "trend" on news databases to get some ideas :P
