Good luck with finding new work. Sounds like quitting is a wise plan.

At times I think I need something like that. Feel free to send email abuse, it's all good.

Good luck finding something - are you looking for anything in particular, or just within a particular field, or have you gone 'hell! Anything at all!'?

I'm looking for something technical, tbh. My current job isn't really challenging, it's mostly running back and forth between people making sure they do things. Something where I can get involved mentally and "hands on" would be great.

Wow! That was quick. ;-)

You know what? Good. It took me a month to leave, and even then I could feel the cheerfulness coming back day after day because I knew I could leave. If you're not "growing" there (like you need to be any taller), find somewhere else.

CV on Monster yet? Also, it might just be that quitting triggers better offers or consideration from your place. Can you check what their reference-giving policy is? At my place they only confirm job title and length of service. Which is great, because I could leave as a star or as a leper, and the next company wouldn't know any better. If you get interviews before your notice period runs out, the new job will never know you quit early.

And for comparison, at least two people; test team members both of them; have quit Filton without anywhere to go to in the past. Both are now far more happily employed.

Yet to look at Monster. It's my first port of call though.

As for better offers from my current place, if they offer something I plan to say:

"I don't want a raise, I don't want an empty promotion, all I want is for you to change the internet policy. If I fail at my job, then feel free to discapline me, but don't question how I spend my time."

We have the same referance policy, apparently a company can be found legally responsable if they "mis-sell" someone, so they choose to keep it to the bare minimum.

Just have to persuade my mum it's a good idea now...
