Hi, hello. I'm so sorry for the late reply.

Member ai actually means member love (ai=love in Japanese). The term of member ai is started by Koyama, i believe. He uses it as the title of his daily j-web/online diary. In his diary, when the NEWS members help each other or other good thing, even the smallest thing, Koyama describes it as "member-ai". The term eventually spread and used not only among NEWS fans but seems like among fans of other groups too.

This is my shot at explaining it, using my awkward English and based on my humble knowledge about fandom, so i'm sorry if there are any grammar errors or information that is not accurate.
