CHARACTER INFO
Character name: Yamato Ishida
Fandom: Digimon Adventure 01
Point in canon taken from: After being shot with the arrow of light. Before the defeat of VenomMyotismon, also known as; the beast, the undead king, ヴェノムヴァンデモン, Demon Beast Digimon. He, along with the other seven digidestined children were faced in the appearance of this evil threat, and it was up to Taichi and himself to take down this
evil. So with the fate of the world on his shoulders he was fulfilling this prophecy; Angels will shoot arrows of hope and light at the loved ones of those they have been sent to protect, and a miracle will happen. Essentially
these two Angels shot both Taichi and Yamato. And when they did Yamato walked through those elevators.
Appearance: Yamato is a stylish youth, he wears the darker colors and hues. He's fairly trendy, and has money to accommodate for his fashion. He's got a single father, who works making good enough money to provide for him and his son. Yamato's hair is blond, with a dark tint to it as both his parent's hair is dark. He gets his good looks from both his mother and father. He's eleven years old, so he's still got a small kid's appearance.
Personality:
He's got an ear for music, and often plays his harmonica. He also does this to calm himself down when he feels particularly dark, upset, sad and of course to express his happiness as well. Though this may be perhaps something offered as a suggestion through some sort of council or therapy, though there's no canon proof for that--just speculation. As most children who go through divorce are offered some sort of grievance type deal through their schools, which I'm going to run with. So here I go with added canon due to interpretation. Yamato was offered a friendly counselor who he went and saw after his parent's divorce. Though the sessions weren't permanent, he only went for a few months. But there he discovered the ear for music, and also gained an unhealthy self-induced expectation that he needed to grow up. So he matured and started telling the counselor what they would have wanted to hear from any regular and healthy child. Though later, back in the canon, you see the issues repressed.
He's got a competitive side to him that conflicts with some of his would be wiser decisions. He'll leap before determining the consequences, for the sake of achieving his goal. Yamato has pieced himself a barrier that separates himself from the world, after the divorce of his parents and the split of Takeru and himself. He did a lot of fast growing in the years he'd spent with his single Father, who's a work-oholic at the Fujiyama television station. So he's had to depend mostly on himself for support, nutrition, and gained a lot of responsibilities since the divorce. He, since having his Father as role model and a parent, has gotten a tough and typical male disposition, while his brother is more sensitive and soft, like their Mother.
He's polite enough to sweet talk adults, and if there's someone annoying him that's not initially his friend, he'll be tolerant enough to stand it until he can escape them. Although even that tolerance can be pushed at his: go fight win! attitude. He's got a knack of being pretty physical, especially toward Taichi or his brother. Whether it may mean hugs for Takeru, or punches for his friend Taichi. But mostly physical touches are 'nice' touches. He lets emotions cloud his judgement.
Yamato competed in personality, morals, friendships and even for his brother position to Takeru with leader Taichi. There was instant jealousy when he saw Taichi was kind to Takeru, and it set this whole 'you think you can be a better brother to my own brother?!' mind set that really messed with his rational decision making, let alone gave him a grouchy personality. Consequently he actually possesses the 'Crest of Friendship', which is symbolic for his trials and triumphs over his lone wolf attitude.
He's yet to cope with his broken heart, that was a consequence to the split of his family.
History:
At seven he witnessed the battle between Greymon and Parrotmon, which inevitably led him to becoming one of the Digidestined. Not long after, his parents got a divorce and he went with his Father across the bay to Odaiba, while his Mother and young brother stayed in Kawada.
When he and his younger brother went to summer camp they ended up getting sucked up into the 'Digital World' along with the other Digidestined children. Yamato was eleven, Takeru was eight. In the Digital world time goes faster in contrast to the real world, so a month may go by in the Digital world and only a day/minute (depends) would pass in the real world.
Important revelations to Yamato:
♪ Meeting Gabumon (which has symbolic attributes when relating to Yamato, such as it's 'wolf' like physical appearances.) is Yamato's personal Digimon and friend. His evaluations consist in order: Tsunomon, Gabumon, Garurumon, WereGarurumon, MetalGarurumon, Omnimon. This Digimon becomes a depending variable for Yamato because of their bond to one another. It's instant relation and Yamato finds comfort in Gabumon's words of wisdom, or advice, or just being able to express to.
♪- Joe saving Takeru, by risking his own life and being strangled, in return by Vegiemon for it. This is when he receives his 'Crest of Friendship'.
-Here he starts to really open up to the fact that he has friends and these friends would do what any good hearted friend would. They'd help protect their friends and their friend's loved ones.
♪- When in the real World, Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon are killed by Myotismon.
-Showing compassion to the enemy, as well as becoming bigger then the line that separates enemies and heroes. Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon weren't good digimon, they were naughty. But more so they just wanted to have a good time, and Yamato understood it for what it was. The difference between a spiteful individual to just a careless one. And that's where he learned the sense of compassion.
♪- When brawling with Taichi, and one of the times Taichi goes to hit Yamato and Yamato starts crying about being worried over Takeru being in the Digital World all by himself.
-He finally opened up to Taichi, about what bothers him so much about being separated. The fact that he can't look after his younger brother. This is the start of a strong bond between Taichi and Yamato--as they eventually become best friends, though later in the canon.
After those events (which is history with a touch of personality♥) they continue their adventure through the digital world. And find themselves back home, seeing that the evil digimon, Myotismon is behind a lot of digimon attacks to Japan. Alongside with the many women sent to the hospital for anemia. The digidestined defeat the form of Myotismon only to face the form of VenomMyotismon. Which they were told of a prophecy on his arrival and how to defeat him.
