I know what you mean. For some reason, I have a horrible time getting the characters and arcs of GenSouKai to stay in my head. I don't know why, because it's not like it's too short an arc to get to know anyone- it's plenty long, in fact- but for some reason I just don't get it as well as I do any of the other arcs.
I'm pretty good with the Kamakura Arc, but that's mostly because I had to take massive notes on it for ClubSoka.
Touda wonders if he ever looks like this when they are not alone, if anyone else sees his movements small and focused and the pain that roars behind his smiles.
Tsuzuki defies logic and conscious knowledge in this as in everything else; he could be powerful, but all his strength is turned against himself.
That is so perfect and sums up Tsuzuki beautifully, and how someone like Todha would see him.
Todha's devotion is so nicely portrayed here, and Tsuzuki seems so young. Compared to Todha I guess he is, isn't he? And you really made them both seem so alive. Thank you so much for this wonderful story!
This is wonderful, and there is so much to rave about: the hyperreality of GenSouKai, the picture of Tsuzuki's grief over the departure of one of the many partners who haven't been important enough to him for us to know their names, with all that it implies about the depth of his routine suffering; the conflict between his need to banish the pain and his unwillingness to spare himself anything; and that's just a start.
Oh, and did I say that the writing itself is gorgeous?
This should be longer: there's more to say about this story. But I want to post this before the authors are revealed, for all the obvious reasons, and I fear that if I try to hit everything before I post I'll miss my window of opportunity.
Holy hell, this is beautiful. I'm usually All About Hisoka, but Touda fascinates me and this...this. So well-done on every level. And I hurt for Tsuzuki so much. I can perfectly understand why Touda is loyal to him.
