The light from the fridge illuminated the otherwise dark kitchen as King rummaged through the shelves looking for a drink. He ditched his most usual beverage: milk, reaching for a bottle of beer instead. God knew he needed it.

More than half an hour passed since the kitten locked himself in the bathroom leaving King alone with his thoughts. It was far from pleasant.

Cold beer in hand the tiger returned to his place on the couch and turned the TV on simply for the sake of breaking the silence that fell over their apartment. Taking a long sip from the bottle served to calm his nerves even if just a bit. The storm of emotion passed already, but he still needed a moment to clear his mind completely.

He even pondered a cigarette, for a second there. And that was something since he didn’t smoke.

When he considered it, the fight with Maru didn’t go all that bad. Well, it wasn’t pretty and it really frustrated him that he somehow ended up hurting his precious little feline, but he didn’t say anything he might regret later on. Yelling maybe, but nothing else. It might have went down smoother had he not let his voice rise so much.

He was sure that given time Mar would understand his reason and would come to accept it, even if reluctantly. He simply needed some space to clear his head and King would be more than happy to provide if that would prove to solve everything.

That’s why when he heard the bathroom door open he didn’t budge from his position on the couch and continued gulping down his cold beverage.

The kitten didn’t appear in the living room until a few long minutes later; fully clothed though in a completely different set of clothes. His hair was still damp, but not heavy enough with water to stop the curls from forming. The darkened front strands were tied back loosely with the rest dangling freely and wetting Mar’s shirt. But he didn’t seem to mind.

When King looked up at him he confirmed what he already knew. The swollen, red eyes were enough of an evidence. Though maybe, just maybe, Mar managed to get shampoo in his eyes yet again.

The kitten stood there in the entrance with his hands in the back pockets of his jeans looking at King, but not meeting his eyes. His gaze was focused more on the beer bottle in King’s hand. So King gulped down the rest of his drink if only to see those bronze orbs follow.

“What makes it different?” Maru finally uttered in a hushed voice that King could barely hear through the noise from the TV.

“You never had a problem with me going over to someone or taking a shower there.” The claret head continued while shuffling with his feet. “I mean, I almost passed out drunk at Andrew’s party so they made me stay the night and the only thing you did the next day was laugh at how I was the only one to get wasted.”

With a sigh the tiger run his fingers through his spikes and leaned forwards, his elbows on his knees as he held the now empty bottle in front of himself. He looked at his kitten without a word until Maru finally locked eyes with him.

“He makes the difference, Mar.”

“But there’s nothing for you to worry about!” Said the little feline taking his hands out of his pockets to gesticulate as he took a few steps towards King; his voice urgent. “I would never let him touch me. You know I wouldn’t. You’re the only one.”

“I know that. I do. But do you know him well enough to say that he’d never try to force himself on you? Because I’m not gonna give him that chance.”

The claret head sighed heavily, but said nothing. He just stood there, only a step away and looked down at the tiger looking really worn out.

King didn’t know if Mar believed him or not, but that didn’t really matter. What mattered was keeping his lover safe and he’d do everything to protect his cute little house cat.

“Listen, he knew I'd go to his place today to get you back. Bastard even dared to tell me that he expected me to be there earlier. I could bet money that he was waiting for me at the door and didn't let me in at once only to make me suffer more. I wouldn't put it past him. He’s messing with us, playing with me."

Putting the bottle down on the floor he reached out and grabbed onto Mar’s right hand and Maru didn’t oppose. Neither to that, nor to King rubbing his thumb over the knuckles. Encouraged by his lover’s silent consent King pulled him closer with a light tug, their knees bumping.

“Even this is his fault. He wanted for us to fight and for you to get hurt so he could take advantage of the situation and console you. And take you away from me.”

Mar opened his mouth to say something, but King wasn’t quite done.

"Look, you don't have to believe me - after all I don’t really have anything to prove what I said about him - but don't get near him anymore, kay? Do it for me and my sanity."

“It’s not that I don’t believe you. I just never considered him anything other than a friend, not to mention a threat.” Mar squeezed King’s fingers. “I just wish you said something from the start so we didn’t have to go through that fight.”

“Well, you can’t really blame me for losing my composure. I’m sure you’d be the same were you in my shoes.” Saying that was the equivalent of ‘I’m sorry’ and judging from the slight curve to Mar’s lips and the gentle squeeze to King’s fingers the little feline understood. “Thought that might have somewhat disturbed my cool royal image.”

The kitten laughed at that and sat on the couch right next to the tiger. Still holding onto King’s hand he smiled softly.

“Nah, the royal image wasn’t damaged much. It hasn’t changed one bit.” Mar said, his voice softening with every word until it changed into a murmur.

Everything that had to be said was said and by morning things would be okay. Mostly. So there was nothing there to stop him from stealing a brief kiss. And judging from the little sound of approval the little feline made he wholeheartedly agreed with King.

The delicate kiss turned into rain of kisses that grew intense with every time their lips touched. The kitten’s back made contact with the cushions as King guided him to lie down.

A fight called for make up sex after all.

“Just don’t yell at me again.” Mar said when King’s lips left his for a moment long enough to speak.

“Yeah, I didn’t like it either. ‘Sides, I like it better when you’re doing the screaming and I’m the reason behind it.~” Was King’s reply before he surged in to coax more sounds from his precious little lover.

--

King would have thought that giving Mar space would be the best course of action, but it seemed that the kitten didn't care for freedom to think. Quite the opposite - the boy pressed himself as close to the tiger as humanly possible eliminating even the slightest void between them.

It was sweet, the night they shared. Their lovemaking. The way their bodies moved and responded dancing together in a rhythm that was carved into to the core of every living creature. How they explored and cherished with every single touch, their lips and fingers driving patterns from one sensitive spot to another as they reclaimed and marked anew. How their voices resonated and combined, melting into one. It was love and it was passion. Apology and forgiveness. And things left unsaid.

Because not everything could be conveyed in words. More often than not the briefest touch could tell more, do more.  Sometimes the simplest caress could work through more than a whole flowery speech.

So they drowned in the sensation. In the heat emanating from their bodies, combining, melding them into one.

Fixing the striations that should have never appeared on them in the first place.

--

King let his thoughts wander as his fingertips drew nonsense patterns over his lithe lover’s back; the claret head sprawled atop his chest and breathing softly against his skin. Mar was deep asleep, soothed by their shared warmth in the comfort of their bed and by the delicate caress of King’s fingers.

Maru’s steady heartbeat and the lull of his breath should have brought sleep upon him a long while ago as well, but somehow King’s nerves refused to calm down. His mind was processing all the words said through the long hours of the day leaving him alert.

It baffled him how he missed it earlier. Maybe terrified a bit even. Mar was such a fragile creature, so easy to break. He could have gone and fucked it all up because of that bastard panther. The little cat almost closed down on him back then, he almost reverted to his past self hiding behind his inner walls. A couple of words more and…

King shook his head pushing away his dark thoughts and cursing Duncan for the hundredth time. If he ever saw the bastard near his kitten again there’d be hell to pay and lots of cleaning to do.

“Stop that.” Came the silent voice.

King looked down, but all he saw was a mess of curls splayed over his skin. Smiling softly he reached with his previously free hand to tangle with the fingers resting on his shoulder.

“Stop what, little cat?” He asked in an equally low, gentle voice.

“Thinking. You’re brain is working so hard I can hear it from here.”

The tiger chuckled at the answer and he squeezed Mar’s fingers briefly.

“Forgive me, Kitten. I won’t do that ever again.”

“Good.” Silence settled between them for a long moment and King began thinking that Mar fell asleep once again, when the little feline spoke again. “What were ya thinkin’ so hard ‘bout anyway?”

King settled his head back on the pillow looking at the ceiling in thought, taking his time before replying to the query. “I’m kind of surprised you accepted things that easily.” He finally said. “Happy, but surprised.”

At that the younger of the two rose from his place on King’s chest to look at his lover, his eyes earnest. “I love you no matter what. Even when you yell at me. I’d hate going to bed without fixing things.”

“My little boy is growing up!” King said bringing the hand that explored Mar’s skin to the claret mess ruffling the curls wildly.

“Shush. Or I’ll bite your nipple.” Mar threatened swatting the offending hand away.

“Kinky cat.~” King laughed.

“Sleep you perverted wildcat. We’ve school tomorrow.” Maru rested his head on King’s chest again, rubbing his cheek against the skin getting ready to fall back into sleep.

“Aw, way to spoil the moment, Kitten. Ow!”

--

King was munching his cereal while watching a variety show, occasionally laughing at the antics of the people on the TV screen. The morning after the fight and making up had him refreshed and calm. He got rid of most of his frustration the day before after all. That didn’t mean he let his guard down and he’ll stop his overprotective behavior. Not until the pest was gone. Or dead. Either worked just fine.

“Are you trying to read the weather out of your cereal?” Maru asked as he walked into the living-room dropping his bag on the armchair. “You’re staring at it so intently.”

“I’m trying to guess whether it’ll rain or not.” King answered with a toothy grin making his kitten laugh.

The slighter feline put his hand on King’s knee and waited for the man to put away his bowl before leaning in to peck the man on the lips. “Idiot.”

The tiger caught Mar’s chin with his fingers and inspected the wound he inflicted on his kitten’s lip. It wasn’t something that would leave a permanent mark, which saddened the possessive part of him.

“This little lip marking here. I wonder how Duncan will react. Probably think I raped you or something. Or maybe hit you and split your lip.” He said tracing Maru’s lower lip with his thumb.

“Oi, that would never happen.” The kitten protested with a serious face to what King laughed.

“I know, but he doesn't. Might think that I'm bad for you. I did storm off in anger after all.” The tiger laughed again letting go of his lover’s chin. “I’d hate getting reported to the police based on that. And if you're all covered in dark bruises from my marking…” He finished with a lecherous smirk.

Mar joined in with a smirk of his own and nibbled playfully on the tip of King’s nose. “I'd visit you in prison.”

“How nice of you, Mar. I’ll look forwards to that.”

The kitten shook his head chuckling at King’s antics and made a move to stand back up. “I’m off now, silly cat. Be good.”

“I can’t promise anything.” King murmured and managed another kiss before Mar pulled back entirely, this one more satisfying than the previous.

Mar merely smiled at that and turned away gathering his bag from the armchair. He was already in the hallway when King called after him.

“Mar…” He really didn’t want to bring it up and disturb the serenity of the morning, but he wouldn’t be able to sit through the day calmly if he hadn’t said anything.

“Yeah, yeah. I know.” The claret head looked at King over his shoulder with a warm smile on his lips that made King see his worries as insignificant. “Don’t worry, King. I’ll keep my distance. See ya after school.~”

--

When King entered the school grounds his cute little lover was already outside, waiting for him. The slighter feline smiled happily when he noticed him and King answered with a smile of his own kind of expecting Mar to run to him like an overjoyed puppy that missed his owner. Much to his dismay the claret head simply walked towards him, acting with the dignity akin to a cat.

Finally reaching King, the curve of Maru’s lips widened slightly and the boy simply continued walking making King follow.

“Hello to you too, Kitten.” Said King striding next to his little lover.

“Hi, Mr. Animal Abuser.” The playful laughter that managed its way past Maru’s lips had him chuckling as well. Ah, so someone did notice the mark he left. Splendid.

“Who’ll report me?”

“Keto might. After she kicks your ass into next week for mistreating me.” Mar laughed again. “Jus on the other hand just called me a ‘psycho’. She thinks she discovered my masochist streak. And no, I haven’t told them the whole story.” The student added in an afterthought.

“How terrified she’d be had she known of the darkness that dwells in your corrupt little heart.~” King nudged Maru’s side with his elbow earning himself another wave of happy sounds and an answering strike to his ribs.

“Jackass. It’s all your fault. You’re rubbing off on me. You’re a bad influence.”

“In all the good ways. Though it’s not entirely my fault. I have simply awakened the devilish part of your naughty soul and trained it.” He threw his arm over the kitten’s shoulder as they waited for the light to change back to green and pulled him closer to plant a brief kiss on the side of his head. “I’m so proud of you, young padawan. You’re my masterpiece. My greatest creation.”

“I’m not worthy of such praise, Master.” The kitten said feigning a serious tone and trying to maintain a straight face, but the mask didn’t last and he grinned at the tiger.

They walked in silence for the next few minutes, King’s arm still draped over Mar’s shoulders.

“Oh, by the way, the girls weren’t the only ones to notice your marking.” The little feline said as they climbed the stairs to their apartment building. “Duncan approached me when I was eating lunch with the girls. I know I promised to keep my distance, but I couldn’t really avoid it. It was a surprise attack.”

He looked at King as if searching for any trace of anger or irritation, but King wasn’t mad. With guard dogs like Mar’s friends he could sleep peacefully knowing that as long as the kitten was with them nothing bad would happen to him.

“What did he say?”

“He asked right of the bat if you’re forcing anything upon me. I almost choked to death with my sandwich then. Honestly, making me laugh while I eat. What a stupid thing to do.” Mar chuckled and continued talking when King nudged his side. “I told him that you’re not that kind of man and that you simply stated your possession. And also, that I’m to keep my distance from him.”

“Hm, and what did he say to that?” He questioned genuinely curious of the leopards reaction. Waiting for Mar’s answer he unlocked the door and let the kitten in first.

“Nothing much.” Maru shrugged as he hung his jacket on the rack and took his shoes off. “He walked away saying that he was happy to have met a friend like me here.”

The tone of his voice was flat with a trace of disappointment hiding behind the syllables. The little house cat was upset. Both because King told him to lose a friend, and because said friend didn’t fight to stay.

Personally King thought it was all a show that Duncan put to make Mar pity him and spite his lover for ordering him around. There was just no way the panther backed off without a struggle. Not when he still had a week left to woo Mar.

Still, King wanted to say something to make his lover feel better. Before he opened him mouth though, the claret head turned towards him with a soft, but sad smile.

“Yeah, I know. It’s for the best.” Mar stepped forwards and embraced King wrapping his arms around the man’s middle. “’Sides, were I in your shoes I’d probably be the same. Though in a less ‘royally cool’-way.”

The kitten chuckled and King kissed the top oh his head.

--

“A party?”

“Yup.” Mar chirped flopping right next to King on the couch and snuggling into his side as if he was readying himself for a nap. King wrapped an arm around him as he flipped through channels.

They were after dinner already, the dishes washed and kitchen clean, and were relaxing in front of the TV, both content and full after the meal.

“A sort of farewell party for the transfer students. The whole year will be there and we can take someone with us.” The kitten yawned and nuzzled king’s shoulder with his cheek. “I wanted to take Merry, but she’s working on that day. Pina can’t come either, so I’ll have to settle for you.”

“Oh, so I’m the 3rd best choice of partner?” King asked poking Mar in his side and making the kitten squirm and swat his hand away. “You little devil.” He wasn’t really offended; the claret head was so busy with school that he rarely had time to meet with his long-time friends. But that didn’t mean he’ll let him slip without a punishment. He would crash the party anyways, invited or not. No way he’d let Duncan have his last chance.

He tickled the boy again.

“Stop that!” The kitten groaned and tried to catch the naughty hand disturbing his soon-to-be-nap. King was too fast for him though and soon he was squirming and laughing while battling King’s fingers away.

--

A week passed by quickly. The following day was when the transfer students returned back to their country leaving all the new friends they made and most probably never coming back. Or that’s what King hoped for especially when it came down to a certain dark haired panther.

King and Mar were getting ready for the party, both occupying the bathroom that was still steamy after their showers. Showers, meaning the first shared one and the ones after taken separately since the kitten insisted that they had to be clean.

Mar was drying his hair with a towel, rubbing the material over the claret mess of hair. When he was done with that he shook his head much like a dog getting rid of the remnants of water and combed through his hair with his fingers. The wild curls would settle on their own however they wished just like the live organism Mar claimed his hair to be.

King watched the whole process from the corner of his eye as he shaved. The kitten was just so darn cute. And so sexy with his towel revealing the curve of his hips. It was such a tempting sight that King felt like fucking him once more before the party. Or better even, ditching the whole ordeal and staying in bed indulging in his favorite pastime.

Mar must have sensed his dirty thoughts because he threw King an amused look and left the bathroom swaying his hips seductively.

Damn tease.

Done with his shaving the tiger followed his lover into their bedroom disappointed to see the kitten mostly dressed. The claret head only lacked a shirt but that would be solved soon since he ceased rummaging through the wardrobe and pulled out a black T-shirt.

What caught King’s attention though were the jeans Mar’s ass was clad in, hugging his lean legs snuggly and showing off the alluring curve of him rump. Yeah, it was definitely King’s favorite piece of clothing in Maru’s wardrobe. Unquestionably.

Normally King would be the last one to have the kitten wear something less tight. He loved showing off just how sexy his lover was. But with the panther still around he had to limit the danger to utmost minimum.

“Kitten,” He started advancing towards his lovely prey and planting his hands on slim hips when Mar turned to face him. “You can’t wear those pants to the party.”

“Eh? Why not?” The little feline looked surprised. “You love them.”

“That’s the reason exactly.” King stated slipping his hands to knead Mar’s rear. “If you wear them I won’t leave your side even for a second and my hands will stay plastered to your sexy ass. You don’t really want that happening, do you? Hm?~”

The kitten eyed him suspiciously for a minute or two weighting the pros and cons most probably before sighing in defeat. “Okay, I’ll change, you horny beast. But you have to let go of me first.”

“Give me one more minute.” The tiger said massaging the flesh in his hands for a moment longer. Then let it go with a satisfied smile. “There.”

“You’re unbelievable.” Mar laughed and moved away to slip out of his pants. “Now get some clothes on yourself or we’ll be late.”

“Ay, ay, Captain.~” HmHmHmhh
