Something happened on the way home from uni today.
Nothing special really, but it was pretty funny to me!
So as usual, Miss PY was fetching me and Von back from uni. Von has gym today so she was thrown off at MV while me and Miss PY continued back.
When home was 5 minutes away, her phone rang. I dunno who it was lah, but that's not the point.
As she was chatting, in about 30 secs, I heard a soft HONK HONK. And you know, well... the radio was on and I was listening to it, so who cares, right?
HONK HONK
Haih, what's up with that guy? So I turned to my left and saw:
A policeman
Ohhhhh boy. I told Miss PY straight away!
It was an oh-shit situation.
So he gestured her to stop the car by the road side, and I told Miss PY to prepare the driving license and all.
Police : Hello, where are you headed to? =)
Miss PY: Oh we're on the way home, it's just about 5 minutes away.
Police: Ok, next time just stop by the road side when you are on the phone kay? =)
*takes out mighty Summons book*
Miss PY: Sorry bro, could you not write me a summon? =(
Police: If I don't write you a summon, what should I do? =)
Miss PY: This is my first time violating this rule, could you let me off this once please?
Police: But what should I do?
Miss PY: Saya belanja minum. (Literal: I'll buy you a drink)
Note this actually means I'll bribe you. Also known as duit kopi (coffee money ) or undertable money.
Police: *grins* How much will you give me?
Miss PY: Is $10 okay?
Police: Well... If I issue this summon, you'll be fined $300. If you appeal it'll be $150. Okay-lah. Put in under your ID card and hand it to me.
Miss PY: Oh, ID. *proceeds to remove ID from purse and starts to hand it to him*
Police: No no, put it under the ID.
Miss PY: Huh, what?
Me: He means put the $10 note under the card and pass it to him.
Miss PY: Oh okay. *digs out $10, folds it, and pass it to the police under the card*
Police: Yes yes, thank you. *takes ID and starts scribbling on the papers. While doing so, skillfully slip $10 note under paper foldings and hands back ID and driving license*
Miss PY & Me: Thank you.
And the police drives away with extra money for tea in his pocket while we escape paying $300 fine. Win-win situation.
It is sad thinking how we are so corrupted, yet in a way it benefits us.
Lotsa smiley faces because he was actually smiling all the way. It's common to bribe them when you break the rules on the road.
Tata, going to watch some CSI!
Night!
