I finally gave up on knitting for any holiday, and frankly, for family. I knitted a lovely cardigan for one step-daughter, she donated it to Goodwill and told me so in a smug tone of voice. I knitted an afghan for the oldest Great-grandson, his Mom washed it in hot water and tossed it in a hot dryer, exactly the opposite of what the instructions said. Felted the hell out of it. Anything I knit for Himself, I wash. So now I only knit for charity, Himself and my DIL, who is a doll and always calls me before she washes anything I knit to make sure she doesn't ruin it.

I'm lucky in that my ceramics are relatively simple care.

I also don't tend to gift my ceramics. I spend too much time and money on them, typically, for me to just give them away.

And I'm so sorry to hear that your family don't give your work and creativity the love and care they deserve.

Since Nephew's college blanket and the prayer shawl for our Music Director, I've been sticking to smaller projects: hats, washcloths, and most recently I've been trying my hand at socks.
