One of my childhood friends, we were best friends for like 10 years, growing up together and everything, got drunk Friday night, when to a strip club, driving home and ran over someone and left the scene. Told the cops he thought he hit a deer, oh please! $3,000 bond, the guy was taken off of life support yesterday, he's going to court for hit and ( Read more... )

Only a $3,000 bond? damn. Chris had a $10,000 bond for a stupid sexual misconduct charge that wasn't even true. And I know a guy that has a $20,000 bond on him simply because his mom had him picked up by the cops because he was *threatening* to kill her.

..and the hit and run and something else -- is probably 1st degree manslaughter. Which means, he'll face a life sentence, if not the death sentence.

Yeah I think dad said it was manslaughter. I can't remember. I know it's been set 25 years to life in prision, I don't think he'll get the death sentence. Although, in a way, I almost wish he would, as bad as that sounds. Why should someone be alive if they killed someone? They shouldn't. Er, I dunno. Dad's suppose to find more out today.

Oh, I saw your ad, you're selling Phan(I think that's him)? Why?

Yeah.. if the guy dies (or if he already has?), it'll be considered 1st degree manslaughter, if I'm not mistaken. Well, I'm not completely sure on the death sentence because some people want it eliminated, some don't. So by the time that would come about, it may not even be something they do anymore.

Yeah, I am. I got to thinking about it more, and I don't really want ANOTHER gelding. I'm just trying to guage interest right now.. I doubt anyone would pay that much for him, but I'm trying to get the most I can because I want to get what I originally wanted.. a Paint filly. I shoulda saved the money I spent on him and added to it and got one, but, I jumped the gun and bought him. But it's a nice re-sale. I'm hoping to make a tidy profit and I've found a few fillies I'm interested in. If I could afford to have a Paint filly AND him, I'd probably keep him. But that's so much time with training both and a lot of money and I just got Dixie too, so, he's up for sale.

How horrible!
I don't think he'd get the death sentence either, because the courts would only look at it as neglegent or reckless.

From the things I've learned about manslaughter, I don't know that that charge would really apply here because nobody died.

But then this is just coming from looking up the word in a dictionary as well as learning about it in my Criminal Justice Classes which are based on Utah Law.

I know. So what's your intake then? If not death sentence, probably atleast 25 years?

So man slaugher wouldn't count even if they took him off life support? I was interested in this stuff at one point, but I can't remember anything anymore seems like.

If he dies.. that being taken off life support or had he died on the spot.. SOMEONE has to be held responsible and he'll probably get charged with that. Atleast, that's what I've always seen. My cousin hit a dude on a bike one night.. Of course, it was the biker's fault because my cousin couldn't see him and the guy was drunk anyway (he had stolen the bike, I shit you not). But it took FOREVER to get all that cleared up in my cousin's favor.

If he died on the spot or if he dies 2 weeks from now as a RESULT of the accident, the friend will be held responsible.
