Every time I see American Choppers it just reaffirms my desire to want to learn how to actually BUILD those goddamned things, not to mention do the paint jobs. And fuck you I wanted to do that way before the show's ever came out. I just am sort of afraid of the stigma girls get going into those garages. Not that being a skingirl it should bother me ( Read more... )

all those stigmas are bullshit. I love working on cars. This summer I spent 3 months messing around with a new clutch install. My dream is to open up a custom hotrod shop, and I've had that dream long before monstergarage/american chopper/american hot rod came along. When I finish up with my bachelors degree I'm actually going back to a local community college to take the "classic car restoration" and "custom painting and interior" programs. Im a painting major right now and I'd absolutely love to paint hot rods for a living and fix up the interiors and everything. I think girls in the garage are great, the few out there that actual like it are such a good part of the car scene because they show that not all girls that are into cars have to wear short skirts and like 2 fast 2 furious. anyhoo enough of this rant..

Yeah see I totally want to do that too. I just sometimes feel that since I wasn't born and raised into a garage that I'd be starting out too late. I hope that's not the case because I feel I would so be able to do that and fit into a garage. Fuck all the stereotypes I just want to do what feels right.

nah, my dad was always into cars, and i played with hot wheels when i was a kid instead of barbies. but i never got a chance to work on cars becuase my dad got sick and shit happened so i never really got a chance to work on them untill i started dating my boyfriend because he's a car nut too. I wish I would have had the chance to get into cars more as a kid but the oppertunity just never arose. I dont really see it as an obsticle though, I still love learning about them and I cant wait to get done with this bachelors so I can go do what i really want to do haha. I can't think of anything better then having a shop with my friends and painting chevy's all day long.

Shit what you've said has actually given me hope. I always thought that all these guys somehow learned this shit directly from the umbilical cord and although I WISH that I did too, I'm sure that's not the case for every single one of them. I'm glad that I've gotten in contact with some other girl who has the same ideas as me.

i used to have this '66 mustang that i always wanted to learn how to fix up for myself, when he gave up and kicked the bucket, i wanted so badly to resurrect him (yes the car was a definite HE, not a SHE) but hadn't the faintest idea how. to this day i want to be able to restore another just like him, so yeah i see where you're coming from.

plus, i've always been told that chicks who know cars = hot

The last line is 100% true amongst my guy friends.

I love American Chopper. We watch it every week. I'm going to take a course as soon as my schedule is set. Fixing cars that is. I can careless about the stigma. Fuck them!

Yeah me and my friends all love American Chopper too. You're right if it's what I want to do I should do it. I've always been interested in it.

Hmm..Maybe it's the area I live in. Most of the girls here who are into the less traditional girlie things are kind of looked down on. My friend had a 66 Mustang too that he was restoring. He used to let me 'help' which was more or less letting me hand him tools while he explained what he was doing but that was cool. AND he let me drive it. I wet my pants when I was behind the wheel.
