I used cloth diapers at home and disposables when we went out or traveled. First of all, I was on a fixed income and cloth diapers were expensive to buy, but were more economical in the long run. Also, both my boys developed a horrible diaper rash from the disposables, but I heard that the new diapers are much better made now and have better ventilation.

I didn't mind washing diapers at all, although some people might have an aversion to swishing diapers in a toilet to get poop out of them. In the summer time, I let the boys run around in just the cloth diapers with no rubber pants over them - so they could 'breathe'. It was apparent when they peed, but they stayed cooler and didn't get the prickly heat they got around the legbands and waistbands that disposables gave them.

It's your call... but disposables do get very pricey as the child gets bigger.
