The news spread fast around school the next day, and everyone soon knew that Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi were a couple. The whole class congratulated them, and even Ryeowook forced a smile and tried to be sincerely happy for them. After all, she figured, if Kyuhyun was happy, then it was enough for her. With that in mind, she offered her congratulations to the new couple with a smile on her face, even though she was hurting.
Naturally, the new couple was questioned about how they became a couple. At that question, Zhou Mi froze. If Kyuhyun told them about elementary school in Incheon, and how he'd liked her since then, Ryeowook would definitely suspect something. After all, Ryeowook was the one who had met him back in elementary school, not Zhou Mi.
Fortunately for Zhou Mi, Kyuhyun only told them that they'd actually met some years ago, and he'd liked her since then, and of course, he was glad that they got to meet again.
From that day onwards, Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi were practically inseperable. The other two "musketeers", Jongwoon and Donghae, had accepted Zhou Mi as part of their group, for she was always with them.
Ryeowook saw the happy couple each day in class, and it was as if someone had stabbed her heart and kept reopening the wound. Yet, there was nothing she could do but wish the couple all the best.
Meanwhile, Zhou Mi was worried that her cover would be blown, and thus tried her best to prevent interaction between Kyuhyun and Ryeowook as much as possible. She was lucky, for Ryeowook was the shy type and wouldn't approach Kyuhyun of her own accord. On the other hand, Kyuhyun didn't want to do anything to make his girlfriend jealous, and so he kept his interaction with other girls to a minimum. Zhou Mi hardly had to lift a finger, the two of them almost never interacted, save for a few "hi"s and "byes".
The days went by as such, with Kyuhyun never suspecting that he had been lied to. He never asked to see the birthmark from that day onwards either, not seeing the need to since he'd already found the one he'd been searching for. After some time, Zhou Mi stopped appying the fake birthmark on her forehead altogether. It was troublesome and Kyuhyun would never be able to tell, in any case.
Zhou Mi had neglected one point though, and that was the fact that Kyuhyun was sharper and wiser than most other people. After the original happiness of finding the girl of his dreams had worn off, he began seeing Zhou Mi for who she really was.
It started with small things. Kyuhyun noticed that, whenever he asked if she remembered an incident that happened back when they were in the same elementary school that he still remembered vividly, Zhou Mi often couldn't remember it. She would dismiss it by saying that many years have passed, and she couldn't possibly remember any of it now. He didn't blame her. It had been a long time after all. But then it became too much of a coincidence that she would always remember it the very next day, coming up to him and chatting animatedly about the incident.
Kyuhyun didn't want to suspect that his girlfriend was lying to him, but it truly was difficult for him not to doubt her. Hoping to prove himself wrong, he tested her one day by asking about a playground located below the apartment where she lived.
There had been no playground. He knew, because he'd been to her place once for her birthday party (she'd invited the whole class), and there was nothing else but apartments and a small convenience store nearby the block of apartments.
Instead of reminding him that there was no playground, however, she'd said "oh, yes, it's still there. I remember I loved going there and playing in the sandbox".
Kyuhyun knew that he had been lied to right then. First of all, there was no playground to speak of. Secondly, the girl of his dreams hated the sandbox. He knew this because there had been a playground near the school, and they would go there often after school. The girl had always avoided the sandbox. Once, when she was asked why, she said that she'd had a bad experience with sand getting in her eyes once, and never wanted to play in the sandbox again. Instead, she would always sit on the swings quietly and swing herself back and forth while deep in thought.
Still, if she wasn't his dream girl, how did she have a birthmark on her forehead, just like his dream girl's? More importantly, how did she know about all those incidents back in their elementary school? Granted, she only claimed to remember them the day after he'd mentioned the incidents, but the fact that she came to know about them eventually, meant that she was either his dream girl, or at least knew who his dream girl was. He needed to make sure that he wasn't falsely accusing her of lying.
"Zhou Mi?" he asked.
"Hmm?" came the reply.
"May I see the birthmark on your forehead one more time?" Kyuhyun asked. Zhou Mi panicked. There was no birthmark on her forehead.
"Um... um..." Zhou Mi stuttered. Kyuhyun took the opportunity to lift her bangs up. Just as he'd suspected, she didn't have a birthmark on her forehead.
"Who are you and why are you lying to me?" Kyuhyun demanded to know.
