First off I want to say it's a very beautiful movie--art, plot, etc. My only issue with it is that sometimes it seems fairly gay...as in homosexual gay. Maybe in Japanese culture it wouldn't seem to be so much, but at least in American culture, this kind of behavior seems beyond the boundaries of philia and into the bounds of eros. I would have been much more comfortable with their behavior were the goat a female. As it stands--Lewis described friendship best when he talked of two people seeing the same vision/idea. Friendship is two people looking out, together, at something. Friends don't look deep into each other's eyes and tell each other how much they long for one another. That's crossing into eros--which is two people looking deep into each other's eyes, as lovers do. Aside from the uneasy gayness, though, it was a really good movie.
Hahaa, I noticed that, too. I just tried to think of it in a childish perspective, where you're best friends forever with the same gender (or so it feels)
Yeah, would have been more comfortable with a female character, too
