And people say they want to live in Japan. Looks like a pretty nice place to me.

I wonder how many people die of suffocation on those trains. O.o

Nope, Japan most certainly; this is pretty standard operating procedure for their mass transit system.

I understood from my son that when he was in Japan they used pushers to get people on the trains, but that's the first time I've seen it.

Hope no one in the middle of the cars wanted off in a hurry.

Yup, that's Japanese transportation for ya. Dad went over there just this past year for a conference, in Kyoto. They had to take one of these trains to get somewhere.

"Why don't we take this one? It's leaving in a minute..."
"Oh, we don't want to take this one."
"Why not?"

"..." O.o

And so they waited fifteen minutes for the next one, which was nicely empty, so they could have a sane ride to their stop.

If I ever lived in Japan, I'd pick someplace more rural. From what I gather, the cities are all pretty crazy.
