Fly - ‘Wow,’ thinks Sora, ‘I know how to fly,’ and he can’t wait to tell Kairi about the simple wonder of being suspended on the wind because he knows that at least she’ll laugh and smile with him, unlike Riku, who already knows and doesn’t seem to care.

Passion - “Wanna spar?” and it’s almost like old times, except it’s just not, because now there will be the cross of cold metal instead of rough wood, and Sora’s terrified his body will betray him if he gets too close to the other boy - he’s never been able to hold back with Riku, and there’s so much more on the line now than his pride.

Red - The sun dips low in the sky, and even though Sora is alone and so far removed from the familiar beaches of home, he can almost ignore the rough roofing tiles he’s seated upon in Traverse Town and imagine instead that the brilliant colors of the sunset are awash over the sea, that a warm breeze is ruffling through his hair, and the sound of Riku’s voice is mere inches away as they sit side by side in a papou tree.

Lost - Sora says “I’m so glad I finally found you,” and Riku is about to object that he was never lost in the first place, but decides he’s willing to let it slide and let Sora believe what he will when lips meet his in an enthusiastic kiss.

Silence - Sora’s keyblade dissolves in sparkling light as Riku falls to his knees, hunched over in pain and gasping for breath, and there’s so much Sora wants to say (please god, Riku, just get up, you have to be alright) but those words are overshadowed by a single truth (oh, god, I did this to you) and Sora can’t say anything at all if the face of his overwhelming guilt.

Angst - Riku covertly watches as Sora openly stares after Kairi, and his chest burns; he knows that this will only end badly for one of them, and, chances are, it’s going to be him.

Alcohol - Sora tips back his head and quickly downs the contents of his glass; it wasn’t supposed to take this long, and though he’s not willing to concede defeat in the light of the day, every night he seeks the comfort of an alcohol induced oblivion and gives up a little piece of hope with every drink.

Wet - Fat raindrops beat a frenetic symphony upon the pavement and Riku can’t believe how cliché this is, standing here with Sora, soaked to the bone and kissing in the rain, but as far as first kisses go, this one is absolutely brilliant, and as Sora’s tongue slips between his lips, Riku realizes he’s got better things to do than fuss over being cliché.

Dizzy - Sora shuts his eyes tight when he approaches the outside lifts of Hollow Bastion, which is probably not the safest thing, considering, but he’s trying his hardest not to think about falls from such great heights and remembering the similar imbalance he experienced when looking into Riku’s cool eyes.

Give - The edges of Kairi’s lucky charm dig groves into his palm as he watches tears flow freely down her cheeks and he’s so sorry, but he can’t help it if he doesn’t have his heart to give back to her when someone else has already stolen it away.

Cold - A snowball hits Sora in the back of the head with a wet thump; he turns with a glare but lets out a burst of laughter that hangs visable in the air where his face was just a moment ago, before Riku wrapped him up in a woolen hug and knocked them both to the snowy ground.

Blush - Riku glares when Sora informs him that a line of spaghetti sauce has just dribbled down his chin, but before he can reach for his napkin to whip it away, Sora stops laughing and leans over to drag his tongue across Riku’s skin to remove it for him and Riku’s glare quickly turns into a deep blush.

Night - At night, as Sora stares up at the stars, he has never felt so alone; he doesn’t know where to look in the jet canvas of midnight sky to find the void that used to be Destiny Island, much less which star might be the world that holds the secret to bring him back to his friends.

Future - Sora’s fingers slide through Riku’s, who smiles in response and tightens his grasp briefly before his eyes slid away to the horizon and there are no words because they’ve finally made it too that elusive after and it seems pointless to ask what happens now when the answer is clearly anything.
