A Thing About Individuality

Individuality is an interesting thing, but the saddest thing about it is how many people get the concept mixed-up. There are people who mistake it for elitism. They think that only they and those like them are the true free-thinkers and individuals so anyone who isn't is inferior/a parasite who are the enemy that should be barely tolerated at best ( Read more... )

I keep remembering the "Bob the Angry Flower" strip that took Rand to its logical conclusion: the individualists having to work very hard just to survive because they don't have any real skills.

I know, best BtAF strip ever. I also notice that attitude with Satanists (Anton LaVey stole quite a bit from Rand) who fancy themselves as the "alien elite" all while accusing the religious for being pretentious and the sheep for enforcing conformity when they hate anyone who doesn't follow their beliefs.

Isn't it always the way, though? The loudest yelps about individualism come from the most rigidly regimented.
