I had a few teachers before university that I was crazy about (I guess I was lucky) and several during university that I continued to go for drinks with after classes finished (am still meeting up with my 70 year old Chinese Art history prof whenever I'm back home) so I always kind of hope that some of my students might feel the same way about me. My Turkish students were good that way- half of my facebook friends are ex students who periodically write me beautiful notes telling me howe much they love me and miss me. Turks are lovely that way. My guys here...sweet but not sentimental at all, I guess...

I guess it could be cultural? When I taught at the inner city, 100% Latino, 50% immigrant school my students got really attached to me. Now I'm at a very ethnically (and socio-economically) diverse school and while the kids like me (mostly), they don't get very close emotionally.
