i think your analysis of the scene is absolutely dead on, but here is my bourgeois response: "Come on, don't you think you're being a little bit hard on them?" at least they're not at TGI Friday's or times square. and let's not forget that a TGI Friday's franchise with pictures of Times Square would be one of the only possibilities for the weekend
