Question

Question for the more experienced members of this site. Sometime in the next few months I want to make an afghan/blanket. But it's for somebody that won't be able to baby it. What kind of yarn is good for a blanket but can be machined washed with prejudice? Does a good yarn that meets that description exist?

Not that pear really does this now, but I think acrylic yarn is pretty hard to mess up.

Yeah - anything that has "superwash" in the name will be mostly natural fibers with some nylon added to make it not shrink.

Lamb's Pride "cotton fleece" is not a superwash, but it will only shrink a tiny bit the first washing.

If you go to knitpicks.com and buy anything with nylon in it or with superwash in the title, it'll be cheap and machine washable!

Thought of another question. Is there anything that doesn't have to be washed on gentle cycle and in cold water? Even in superwash I'm seeing that's it's recommended to be washed on gentle cycle in cold water, and I'm basically trying to find something that can be washed in warm water on a regular cycle... Like I said, I'm not sure that exists. And I'd prefer something that doesn't melt when exposed to high temps like it's been said acrylic does.
