Title: Friday Night
Characters: Kate, Kate/Jack
Summary: She is too tired to wait up any longer
AN: Seriously now. Those two are just so beautifully tragic, I can't help it, so I will just embrace the angst.
She is too sleepy to wait up any longer. She puts away the dishes and there is some dinner left over. She places it in a Tupperware and in the fridge.
She makes her way up the stairs, stopping by Aaron's room to check on him. He's sound asleep in his bed. She smiles at the sight of "Alice in Wonderland" sitting on his bedside table.
Once in her room, she pulls out one his shirts and puts it on, enjoying his smell and warmth that cling to the shirt, just like she clings to it. The bed is too big for just her and she cannot wait for him to come back and fill the empty space.
She tosses and turns, unable to sleep in the half vacant bed. She grabs her phone and calls him. All she gets is his voice mail and she wonders where he could be, he never works late on Fridays. She calls him over ten time within the next thirty minutes, leaves him voice messages and texts him a few times. She starts to worry. He always called when he was going to be late, or at least left her a message.
The battery on her phone starts to die and she reaches into the bedside table to pull out the charger. The blinking red light infuriates her and she curses under her breath. Her angry panic makes its way to the surface, and she cries out, Dammit Jack! Answer your phone! Please!
There's a soft knock on her door, and she unconsciously wipes a tear off her face. Her voice comes out as a sob and she whispers Come in.
Claire is on the other side, looking sadly at her friend, and she is immediately by her side, hugging her tightly, trying to soothe her, as Kate weeps against her shoulder. Claire takes the phone from Kate's hand, and her tears are falling freely now as well. She presses the red button and they both watch the light blink for one last time, "Calling Jack Shephard", before the screen turns dark.
