this one's a lil short but i felt like ending it in this sorta sad cliffhanger.

You're My Worst Nightmare

Almost there but not quite yet

After Kyo's departure no one spoke up for a good five minutes. Everything seemed to have changed, all the wisecracks weren't as funny, the vague 'brush it off' attitude didn't work anymore. This became serious as soon as bandmembers abandoned a meeting.

"What now?" Die spoke up first, mainly looking to Toshiya whom he caught out of his thoughts. It took a few moments for him to respond. "...We convince two stubborn men." And he was right. If their leader didn't believe his own predicament, how would the most easily shaken up vocalist regard it as truth? The show must go on and Kaoru must remember who he is.

"Shin-chan, will you get those photo albums Kyo dumped on the counter," it was time to convince the bull-headed mule he called his lover.

The three men huddled around their leader on the big couch looking down at the keepsakes of their youth: the first album was Toshiya's and thus full of Kaoru and himself, with a few exceptions of the whole band and then some. The three visibly brightened as fond memories resurfaced, commenting and laughing at their more goofy moments.

Habitually Toshiya grabbed his lover's hand, tightening his grasp when they reached the arcade pictures-the night they hooked up. The night itself had been a huge blast, especially watching Kaoru win all that candy and then share it with him, but the confession that followed led to the most magical night he thought they'd never forget.

Kaoru grew accustomed to the way Toshiya held on to him, avoiding the chances of another fight with him; the bassist was taller and more athletic than he was, he didn't want to get shoved against a wall again.

At the first few pages of the album he laughed and joked with his fellow bandmates, that is until the pictures started looking unfamiliar and half the people were unrecognizable. His grin slowly faded and he grew more silent, a feeling of detachment isolating him. Was all this for real? The photos did appear authentic enough, most of them did look novice with poor lighting and unprofessional camera angles.

Then came Kaoru's album. Unlike his private and conceited collection at home on his walls, the first half consisted all of the entire band and their many mishaps offstage or behind it. The second half was more personal and only housed the couple posing in various places. The intimate moments mingled with the goofy, adorable ones so it wasn't all just gushy, lovely-dovey-totally not Kaoru's style.

Toshiya loved it though, his snaggled teeth protruded cutely from his wide mouthed grin. Kaoru happened to look up at that moment, inhaling too sharply causing him to cough. Panicked eyes darted from the memorable keepsakes to an ansty bassist then to a perplexed guitarist and drummer. The grin disappeared, replaced by a concerned pout. Toshiya tried asking what was wrong but nothing prompted a response from the now bewildered guitarist.

That look, those shinning eyes, what a truly happy smile; no one faked that kind of reaction to supposedly fake photos. Toshiya told the truth.... They were together and it had been eight years since Gauze debuted. Dear Jesus, Kaoru was old!

. It made sense now, why Shinya didn't wear dresses or long hair, why Die owned a jeep, why Toshiya cared so much....why Kyo looked like a bitchy lion. "What year are we in?" Distress clearly marked Kaoru's ever calm voice.

"K-Kaoru? What is it? Are you remembering something?" Toshiya blinked hopefully, gripping his lover's hand tighter.

"What year is it?" he repeated hastily.

"2007 dude, chill. You've been happily married for six years."

"WHAT!?" The photo album nearly flew into the air and ontop of Shinya's head. Kaoru stared desperately at his best friend, shaking Toshiya's hand almost violently. The troublemaker laughed aloud, "I'm kidding! Calm down."

"Not funny, Die," Toshiya reprimanded, slapping him with the back of his hand. All joking aside their leader was shaken up pretty badly.

"A-are we married?"

The bassist shot another reproach at Die before soothing his lover, "no, don't listen to that idiot. We've been going out for six years, open with the band for four. You asked me out, we broke up two months later, and got back together one month after that." Toshiya peered into chocolate orbs for any signs of recognition, any relapses or hints of resurfacing memories, sadly it all came up empty-handed. He inwardly sighed in defeat.

"But we uh... Kyo he..." Everything jumbled around in Kaoru's head like jellybeans shaken in a jar; his thoughts were a mess, each one smacking him for attention. His quickly blinking eyes confirmed his inability to swallow everything at once. But when he was able to focus on one thing, his voice sounded uncertain. "So Kyo really was Kyo? And I really did fight with him?"

Toshiya stroked the top of his hand, overjoyed tears welling over his eyelashes. It had taken so much out of the bassist to convince him and now it finally happened. No more arguing, no more persuading, only regaining those lost moments, and if Toshiya were lucky, Kaoru already remembered and they could go back to being happy. "Yeah, but its ok now because my Kaoru's back and he'll forgive you. He will."

"But you did call him an old fart, I dunno how Kyo's gonna forgive that," Die winked, punching Kaoru in the arm playfully.

The comments weren't really heard. Kaoru's thoughts quickly shifted to other problems like how was he to cope with a relationship, or memorizing 8 years worth of guitar solos, or keeping up the same public image 2007 Kaoru established. Did everybody know he was....gay? Did they still do fanservice onstage?

"I...I gotta go..." Kaoru abruptly stood up and turned from his bandmates.

"Kaoru wait!" Toshiya grabbed his lover's hand but it was torn from his grasp. He gasped, startled then scrunched his eyebrows from the rejection. Reaching out desperately he had to know, "do you... remember anything? Anything at all? Even if its something stupid or small. Please. Tell me."

"No," the guitarist replied briskly, "but if you'll excuse me I have a pissed off vocalist to please and a life to recollect." Not wanting to waste more time or to lose Kyo, Kaoru strode from the lobby and out the same door the blonde left.

Toshiya slumped against the cushion utterly crushed. "But I'm part of your life..."
