Viruses and stuff

Dec 19, 2006 00:06

I think I have unwanted programmes on my puter, eg System Doctor 2006. How do I go about removing all unwanted programmes like this and whats the best type of anti spyware stuff I should be using?

Any ideas?

I use McAfee - to be honest most anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall programmes are ok, but I definitely suggest you pay for one rather than trying to use a free shareware one. Once you have something installed set it up to automatically download updates, then you can just leave it running and forget about it.

Hmmmm, I actually already have McAfee installed, yet I still managed to get some spyware and adware stuff coming through.

Check and make sure you've got it configured to stop spyware? Also are you sure you've got the full suite of McAfee anti-stuff installed - I think the spyware might be a separate bit, like the antivirus and firewall are separate?

I've a feeling I had to download or switch on something extra for the spyware - can't check at the moment though 'cos I'm at work. Will have a look when I get home.

I was just about to recommend AVG, it seems to use less system resource than McAffee
