my oldest son (almost 15) wrote a poem for an English class, and of all the poems across the country submitted this year, his was one of 10 chosen for his grade level and will be published in an annual anthology. !!!! Way to Go Kiddo!!!!

What's the name of the publication? Some of them are what's called "vanity publishing" where the piece is only in the book if you buy a copy. I know this b/c my friend Amy and I were entered in one by our teacher in 4th grade and of course, neither of us got it. :(

apparently the company does this contest every year. They choose the top 10 poems of all entrants for each grade level. the book is published regardless of whether we purchase one or not. The school will get one copy. WE can of course purchase copies and I'm sure that's where they make the money. It's about $25 a piece including the shipping so it's not outrageous. And I'm more concerned about the impact it has on him than who makes what or how many other people see it (and I'm sure they are counting on that as well, how many will the grandparents buy and all that).

Forward this to the local SCA newsletter and the kingdom newsletter to see if they decide they have room for it.

If I can, I will send it to my local branch's newsletter, I'd need a permission to publish form. If then decide to use it, I will let you know.
