I really couldn't think of a good title for this post...I got a lot of beliefs, and I'll probably come off as judgemental, that's the problem with beliefs, almost everyone comes off judgemental.
I believe Ryan would kill me if I wanted to play "We've Only Just Begun," at our wedding lol.
Ok no really.
Um yeah, so religion. I'll try to keep this quick. There is no man in the sky, there is no hell, there is no sin, there is no "right." I feel I most identify with Hinduism and even that has the characteristics of other mainstream religions; a bunch of tradition things rich people make up to make themselves feel better like rituals. "Sin" in Hinduism isn't like that of other religions, where you break a certain rule, it's more of "bad" than "sin". In Hinduism, the worst thing you could do is care about life in the here and now, care about all materialistic things, let emotions rule your life, and basically be someone on Jersey Shore. There isn't really a god, but there are some ideas similar to Christianity. There's Brahman: of the nature of truth, knowledge, and infinity. Brahman isn't a man in the sky, it doesn't have personal qualities like a God would. It's really hard to explain but think of Brahman as the supreme being who is embodied by all the energy in the universe, it's always been there, always will be there, and is everywhere. Kind of like a god, right? Atman is our soul, our basic selves, not who we are defined by the world and our current experiences, it's what gets passed on in different reincarnations, but it is also connected to Brahman, so you can kind of think of it like the Holy Spirit. All Hindus are not the same and thus don't believe all the same things, just as other religions. But here are some ground rules:
1. If you don't believe like a Hindu, it doesn't mean you are damned for eternity, or going to hell, etc. This is the only religion I know of who doesn't deny "eternal life" to those who don't believe in a specific way. "The truth is one, but sages call it by different names" is a good Hindu quote demonstrating this idea.
2. Brahman is not a person, doesn't have emotions, and can't punish you. Your goal in life is to realize that this world is just full of meaningless existence aka the car you drive, the sadness and pain you may feel, etc. and that you see Atman inside yourself is in harmony with Brahman. Basically, accepting that something is higher than your consciousness and what you think really matters, doesn't. I also take it this way, accept death. Accept that it is not the end, don't cling to the world and existence as what you know it. Be free from fear, anxiety, and just accept it. Death happens.
3. This "universe" isn't exactly the same, it wasn't always the same, it won't always be the same.
4. Karma is not, oh you cut someone off so someone didn't give you back the correct change. Basically, it's "If you can't handle being human without being retarded, you get demoted to dog. Dog's can't drive, or keep up with the Jones', so you'll get more time to work on it." What we do in this life determines what we get in the next.
5. Don't be a bitch, it's not nice. You are them, and they are you, you're all connected, so being a bitch to them is being a bitch to yourself.
6. If you're gonna get to nirvana, kind of heaven in a way, you're going to need a teacher. It's hard not giving in to human desires and emotions.
So this is what I'm here to do. Stop caring about money, stop caring about clothes, stop caring what kind of house I'll have or my occupation. Stop caring where my life is going as far as society is concerned because it really doesn't matter. That stuff brings you down, it doesn't make you happy. Realizing yourself as one with the universe will.
