After we finished filming in Taos I spent a few days in ABQ getting life back together. Then flew off to Michigan.
My mother and I went for two weeks,of bonding time that was very nice and for a time she did very well at relaxing. My mother relaxing is quite fun, its the stressed out woman that tries to micro manage my life that drives me nuts. We stayed with some of her friends and it was quite a nice time seeing the town bustle about. Spending time with my mom in this capacity
I began to see who she was before family, before she was MOM, back when she was, well... my age and just figuring all that out. That was nice, both perplexing and a relieving as far as reality checks go.
We met up with my cousin Ken and his wife and children. They were visiting from Thailand, where he's a missionary. He decided to swim the lake. You see as children my mother and all the other cousins had swam across Lake Charlevoix and back. He never had and always wanted to. He's training for a triathlon, and when I decided to try to swim it with him I overlooked that part. Well, that and that he's nearly a foot taller than I am. I only made it out just past where the boats were anchored and I turned back. The boat with everyone else went with him and I enjoyed the shore. He swam across and back twice. I Imagine that I could have made it across the whole lake in that amount of time. Perhaps some day I will.
The rest of the family showed up for week two. It was overall fun, yet muggy and the Boyfriend and i didn't kill each other. This wasn't to plan mind you, we had planned an epic and disastrous fight where we would ruin the trip and only speak pleasantries again at mutual friends parties. I guess it was too hot or something though because we never had the energy to do so. ;) Instead we went to the beaches, rocky though they were, and meandered around town. We hung out with my family and friends of family and played vagabond a few nights of the trip...ok most of them.
The memorial for my Uncle was quite nice, as it turned out. It rained, but only until we wanted to gather for the remembrance and had gathered inside, and in true fashion the sun came out while we were all crowded in the quickly humidifying cabin. I must have eaten half a cow that day, literally, which i acknowledge was not good, but i also acknowledge that it was emotional eating. After the party would down and take down was nearly over, I joined my boyfriend in the lake, along with my brother and his fiance.
We poured the concrete for his headstone to be set on and my mother picked out the grave stone. Surprisingly, but i suppose not too surprisingly, I didn't see my Aunt. They were never married and she's a bit looney but she had always tolerated me as a child and been kind. I have never been really close with my Aunts and Uncles, perhaps that is why I put so much effort into my friends... that and I always wanted cousins at school growing up and didn't have any.
All in all the trip was successful, a few days of vacation and a wake, though not really any of the healing i was hoping for from the experience. My brother and I will be having a camping trip for some more of that in the hopefully near future.
I have added swimming the lake to my newly made bucket list. It's not very long so far but I have begun to think about it and that counts.
Since being back I have applied for MANY MANY jobs,
Worked on Odd Thomas for the second time. Met a very nice lady who is an interpreter for the deaf and have exchanged numbers, keep meaning to ask her to coffee, should do that... anyway... I even went to Taos for My brothers birthday and helped my parents out with projects to help cover utilities.
I Am still looking for a job, with little luck *sigh*. I have an apt with career services at UNM tomorrow for more help in getting one.
Again I'd like to put out there that I'm searching for an office position or a quick route to fame, or just something that will cover expenses for the time being. If anyone has projects around the house that they can't seem to find the time to do, and would like to pay me to do them please let me know. We can negotiate something.
