Summary: Sakurai Sho has a past he wants to but cannot forget, and tries to take revenge. He then meets a man, who causes him to lose track of his original plans.
Sho wrapped his white scarf around his neck, swiftly put on his grey long duffel coat and left his house. After walking around the busy streets for about ten minutes, he stopped in front of café “Time”. He opened the door and bells rang to alert the waiters a new customer had just entered. Sho gave a friendly short wave towards the workers to show the customers in the shop that he was a regular. Without any hesitation he went to the furthest corner of the room and sat in a seat across from a skinny man wearing a loose cardigan, looking down fidgeting with some items on his lap.
“Sorry I was late, Nino,” Sho apologized and took off his coat and hanged it on the back of his chair, “I couldn’t find my scarf.”
Nino raised his head and looked at the man now taking a seat across from him with a quick glance of suspicion and put away the cards on his lap into his right jean pocket. He then swiftly raised his hand and called one of the waiters over to order two coffees.
“You’re paying today then,” he said with a smirk as he saw Sho’s expression drop into a frown, “I got what you want, though.” He reached into his backpack by his feet and took out a clear file with a thick amount of paper and a few photos. He handed it over to Sho, who took the papers out and looked through the documents with various addresses and names and smiled in satisfaction. Sho then flipped through the photos clipped onto the documents and changed his expression from a smile to a more serious one; his eyebrows furrowed together and his mouth in a position somewhere between a pout and a purse.
“I know, this is going to be harder than the ones before,” Nino said quietly as he observed the older’s expression with sharp eyes, “but don’t worry, my plans perfect as always.” He proudly announced and tapped his chest with his right hand twice, earning a sarcastic are you serious? look from the latter. Nino chuckled and looked up, the waiter placing their coffee on the table catching his attention.
“Aiba!” Nino exclaimed, surprised at their unpredicted encounter. The waiter looked up and his eyes lit up at the presence of his friend.
“I thought you were starting tomorrow,” Nino said confused.
“Oh they said they don’t have enough people today, so I thought I’d help!” the waiter said cheerfully. Nino opened his mouth to talk but stopped after glancing at his watch and stood up abruptly, “Oh I have to go talk to Ohchan!” He quickly grabbed his bag and gave a small pat on Sho’s shoulder, who was looking at the two bewildered, unable to grasp the situation.
“But the coffee…” the waiter started but was cut off by Nino who was already halfway out the shop, “finish it for me, the bill’s on him anyway!” Ignoring the death glare coming from Sho he added jokingly, “Aiba, talk to him will you? He needs friends,” and quickly waved towards the two dumbfounded as he hastily exited the café.
Sho watched his friend out the door and then turned and faced the man standing next to him awkwardly, not sure what to do.
“Can I?” the waiter asked hesitantly, gesturing towards the chair Nino was sitting in previously.
“Oh, sure. Go ahead, I have no one else to talk with anyway,” Sho said with a tone that was almost impossible to read whether he actually wanted company or not.
Sho put down the files on his lap and faced the man now sitting across from him, and for the first time, he got a good look at his face. The man was about his age, with brown ruffled hair, messy but neat in place, and had the most innocent round light brown eyes he had ever seen; to put it simply, the man was pretty attractive to the eye.
“I’m Aiba…what should I call you?” the waiter asked Sho quietly with an attempt to break the ice.
“Oh call me Sakurai. Nice to meet you,” Sho responded, “Nino left at the weirdest moment, didn’t he,” he added. Aiba nodded as he took a sip of the coffee Nino had ordered.
“Are you good friends with Nino?” Aiba asked, “I’ve known him since elementary school and he never mentioned you…”
“Oh we’re not that close, he just helps me with some stuff once in a while,” Sho responded after drinking his coffee.
Once they got talking, it was as if they had been friends since they were born. Sho was happy to have someone he could talk to; what Nino said before he left was true, he really didn’t have any friends he could talk to like…a true friend. There was something about him, something about Aiba himself that was warm and welcoming making Sho feel like he was able to talk about anything with him. Perhaps it was the way he talked, the cheerful, happy almost non-stoppable talking. He was the type of person Sho had never met in his life and he was clearly fascinated by him.
“You work here, right?” Sho asked suddenly, glancing at the waiter-uniform Aiba was wearing.
“I start tomorrow…Why?” Aiba asked, curious about why he had suddenly asked such a question.
“Oh, nothing. It’s just…I like talking to you,” Sho said honestly, kind of embarrassed at what he was saying, “Sorry, was it too personal?” he quickly apologized and attempted to smile, but ended up having a awkward grin on his face instead.
Aiba suddenly had a nostalgic feeling taking over his heart when he saw the smile. He shook his head in response to the latter’s apology, and kept talking about random stuff coming up in their minds, trying to forget the strange emotion building up within him. But the more they talked, the stronger the feeling became.
“Have we met before?” Aiba suddenly asked, almost as if he was asking himself. Sho looked at him questioningly, and shrugged “I don’t think so.” Aiba quickly apologized and mumbled something under his breath, and got up to put away the two cups of coffee that were now empty.
“I should go,” Sho said, standing up after Aiba and following him to the cashier, “can I come back to talk to you again?” he asked in a half mumbled voice.
“Sure, go ahead! I love company,” Aiba said cheerfully as he took the money Sho placed on the counter and put it inside the cashier, “I probably wouldn’t be able to talk to you for that long though, the master will get very mad!” he laughed as he handed the receipt to the latter.
Sho saluted to his new friend and took out his cell phone as he left the café. It didn’t take him long to find the caller ID he wanted (seeing he only had about 3 people in the directory in total): MJ. Two rings, and a bad-tempered voice answered the phone.
“What do you want?”
“I just talked to Nino. Get me what I asked you for yesterday, will you?” Sho spoke in a low voice as he started walking back towards his house, “I’m planning to take action two days from now.”
